I tried to find the link of the data he goes over in this video, but they are estimating that 14% of cases in the U.S. are already Omicron.

[video=youtube;GTxAGb1Lv7k]

Edit: He estimates that most will be exposed by Christmas in England and the U.S. and many places. Well, on the 15th I have to go down to the university to sit in a room with multiple people to evaluate students, so I'm highly likely to meet my friend Omicron on that day. At least it hasn't increased hospitalizations noticeably yet, and I have had my booster. I will wear an N95 and additional cloth mask and wash my hair and clothes when I get home because I also worry about my cats.

I'm really not worried about Omicron. The Delta variant is still killing thousands every day, almost all new cases (200k on Monday) were Delta.

From what I understood viruses tend to balance virulousness and severity. And they often get milder over time. We still know too little about omicron but so far it at least doesn't seem to cause more damage than delta. The optimist in me hopes it is actually milder but extremely infectious and quickly pushes out delta. That too could be a way for a pandemic to dwindle out, I guess.

It is just too early to judge Omikron.

It is too new and no one has come into the late stage of disease (especially in northern hemisphere).
In South Africa it is now late Spring and that significantly lowers the threat.
South Africa is about 15-20 years younger than typical developed country (and age really counts).

Plus there is a potential problem even if it can cause somewhat milder disease. What is because if is much more contagious that can still result with surplus of people in hospitals even if vaccinces continue to work at current levels. Also more people infected is rising the chance of mutations. What is evidently a wildcard.

The change in the map is slowing down, since now the less developed countries will take some time to detect it.
And with that I will conclude the story since it is evident that it has spread across the globe.

Last month Germany had an excess mortality of about 20%. The numbers are significantly higher in the states with the highest infection numbers (which also happen to be the states with the lowest vaccination rates). Thuringia and Saxony had an excess mortality of 43% and 37% respectively.

These also happen to be the regions with the highest number of far-right voters and conspiracy theorists.

They get more and more violent too, attacking police and journalists during demonstrations and sending death threats to doctors for offering vaccinations. Only today the police raided the place of some far-right suspects who had been conspiring via Telegram to assassinate the center-right governor of Saxony.

UK +78600 (new daily record)
While the previous one was just 67800. What is because of "omicron flood" that is happening there (very contagious variant + lack measures).

There is currently a number of countries with record numbers or close to that out there.

Worldometer UK

And that is for yesterday, today it is already +88 330

Worldometer South Africa

This also doesn't look pretty.

In Denmark there is a peak of +10 000 while the record of last winter was +4500

Illinois and Ohio also have a pretty bad day.

Etc.
