If I'm understanding the article correctly, it doesn't seem to be making them ill, they're just carrying it around. So I guess it's good that we don't have to worry about them becoming endangered.

That's a very Soviet sort of proposal that I'm pretty sure wouldn't fly in the US.
Prairie dog plague? That's news to me. I just know that the bison aren't toys.
People are relying on their social reasoning almost exclusively. They feel confident in the social dynamic, but have no ability to reason with logic or have a knowledge base of science. Humans create shared perceptual constructs and process reality in this manner on many levels of society. It is as though gossip, (socially shared unfounded perceptions) is reality on a deep cultural level. This pandemic is revealing a fundamentally flawed aspect of human perception and thought.
People hear statements like, "Science can never prove anything/provide 100% certainty" and on that basis, dismiss scientific advice as unreliable. Of course that statement is correct. Nothing can provide that level of proof or certainty, even the scientific method. What science can do is DISprove flawed or inaccurate conclusions. Unscientific approaches cannot. What we generally regard as "scientific knowledge" are those explanations that have not (yet) been disproven, that have withstood the test of time and continue to explain all available observations. When it comes to questions regarding the natural, physical world, that is the best we can do. Settling for less won't give a better outcome, and can be outright dangerous on matters of consequence like pandemics or climate change.
Very true, and it is exactly at odds with the social reasoning being applied here. The pandemic, along with most every important global issue, is reduced to a football game. In that social context you choose a team, support everything about it and everyone on it to win the game. You say cheers like "We're #1, we're made the best to beat the rest 'case we're #1!". That mental attitude of superiority and domination and total group adherence is what is required to win the game over a similar group of humans. In addition to superiority there is also a different approach to fear processing. To win the game or the battle, fear can not ever be admitted. Anyone who feels it will be distracted from grabbing the ball, so bravado supplants reasoned fear.
Of course. And it will continue to mutate and produce more and more variants. A combination of refusal of places like the US to not look at getting every person on the planet vaccinated and all the "you do you" happening worldwide.
Yeah, it will spread everywhere eventually.
