So there are two industrial type trucks driving around and around the block tonight. I think one is pouring bleach on the streets - it has a large water tank on its back and the street looks wet in a pattern that follows where it is driving. The other one looks like maybe a dump truck, and I'm not sure what it's doing, but they are both idling outside my apartment building.

There is at least one more truck and it's oddly shaped and unlike vehicles I've seen. Lots of large trucks idling on street corners and sometimes driving round and round the block. I think it's related to the virus, but the street bleaching is the only thing I've heard of related to this.

Is this happening where you live and do you know what it is all about?

Idaho is preferring to pad their numbers so we haven't noticed that here....

UK has enough intensive care units for coronavirus, expert predicts | New Scientist

Of the 20k projected UK deaths, half would likely have denied in 2020 anyway.

I'm sorry I am beginning to question if you actually have that thing called a heart in you because you just keep repeating this as if it makes it okay that these people are losing family. Also other countries including here have mentioned healthy people on respirators struggling, there are a few children even dying in America. Please readjust your heartless commentary. No one deserves to lose loved ones in this fashion. There are people getting permanent organ damage they didn't have prior when getting this. Are we going to ignore that Italy is so crowded even the young have to sit at home and face death now? Are you going to continue to spew your crap? Because its being proven further and further as bullcrap. If this is all you have to add anymore, you might as well go. We get what you think and obviously nothing is changing your mind. Hope no one close to you gets it.

Should I watch this if I think funerals are stupid?

There might be a few parts near the end about that that mighy irk you, but otherwise its informative. Basically, funeral homes should be able to tend to the dead without being overwhelmed, and most viewings are on hold/stopped at this time.

Might I also suggest this one instead/as well.

The UK also has one of the lowest rates of critical care beds in Europe - which is one reason Italy and Spain were so badly affected.

Over here there are still enough free beds but hospitals try to ramp up the numbers as fast as possible as they are bracing themselves for the storm to come. So far Germany has had a very low letality rate but most people are aware we are only at the beginning of a wave that just started to hit us. It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better.

Germany has had some of the best methods of dealing with the virus that I know of. I hope the example will be followed closely by others as well, otherwise the bad will only get worse.

I have a heart and a brain. It is wise to use both. Unfortunately, some demonstrate too often that they choose to avoid thinking much at all.

You do realize that almost 3 million people die every single year in America alone. Where is your heart for them? Where is your compassion for them? Where were your posts about them for the three years you have been in tune forum?

Death is a part of life. It isn't unusual or rare. It is sad when someone I know dies, but it is only rarely a tragedy.

But it is what is. Here is a top 10 causes list: The top 10 leading causes of death in the United States

Let's see: no.1 -- heart disease, 647k. Almost 2000 per day. Some of those die very young. I have a son that had heart surgery when he was 7 lbs. that prevented his death. I have another son, still a minor child, who is currently scheduled to see the heart surgeon for a possible heart surgery. I have gone on the annual Heart Walk for years. Given my family history, I will probably die of heart problems.

Every single year almost 3 million die in America. Most of us can deal with those deaths rather well, no matter how much we care for those we know.

You are more than heartless if you refuse to look rationally at the consequences here if we have Greater Recession or Depression. The deaths of despair will dwarf the Covid dead.

Have you read any estimates of when the trajectory should change as a result of/ with continued social distancing? Do you know if this already reflects a slight change (would the trajectory otherwise be sharper without the social distancing that started mid-March)?

Losing a business or job is a part of life. It isn't unusual or rare. It's sad when someone I know loses a job or has a run of bad financial luck, but it is only rarely a tragedy.

But it is what it is. Here is a top 5 causes list: Council Post: What Percentage Of Small Businesses Fail -- And How Can You Avoid Being One Of Them?

Let's see: no.1 -- No market need. My stepdad had a construction business before the 2008/09 financial crisis. He had to scale back and eventually ended up working odd jobs. I have donated my time educating young people on how to make wise financial/business decisions at local universities. Given the statistics, if I started a business it could very well fail.

Every single year markets change, businesses fail, people lose their jobs. Every decade or so we have a recession. Most of us can deal with those fluctuations very well, no matter how much we care for our businesses or jobs.

You are more than heartless if you refuse to look rationally at the consequences here if we risk a failure of our healthcare system and the unnecessary loss of lives. The jobs lost if we don't contain this could dwarf those caused by a temporary shutdown.

My "projections" absolutely do not reflect the change in trajectory due to societal intervention. They're more an illustration of exponential growth and a "what if" scenario were current and past trends to remain. I'm not sure offhand what the typical lag is, but hopefully the slop of the graph will begin to show a gradual flattening as the effects of this social distancing are realized.

I'd thought you were charting what's actually happening vs. what experts were anticipating. Am I wrong about that?

(Because if that's what you're charting, then a change in trajectory due to intentional intervention is reflected in the chart, just not explicitly).

Oh no, I’m charting what is actually happening vs what I originally projected to happen if then-current trends continued. Just scroll up the thread for my earlier (and first) posts on the subject. It’s a very simple exponential growth model.

So, at the moment things are a bit worse than they were originally (even though at that time we only had like 1000 cases). But I absolutely expect the outlook to improve once the effects of social distancing, etc. are realized.

This was going to be my next question, whose projections you're using.

Now that they're comparing movement in states by tracking smartphones, I'm hoping some comparisons (set up like your chart) will surface within the next week of how trajectories differ according to how much or how little people self-isolated.

******

I just read that Fauci expects growth to be so profound this coming week that he doesn't even feel the need to urge against planning to end social distancing by Easter; the need to keep it going will be self-evident soon enough.

What makes you say it will get much worse on the short run ? (genuine question)

I mean here the official number of deaths is only about 20% of Germany (per capita). However even despite that the government is not taking any gambles and they made plenty of alternative but safe locations for positive but not serious cases.

Plus it seems that the first wave of recoveries is starting to kick in.

Breaking News : Boris Johnson UK Prime Minister test positive for Corona virus.

Coronavirus: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tests positive, '''mild symptoms'''
But He promise to lead UK fight back
It would be better for top officials not to attend any conferences teeming with many people or only to meet through video conferences and if they have to travel, they should use less common transportation means like helicopter. Top officials are important person to protect since they fight the COVID 19 pandemic for people. If they fall sick, who will lead?
