The herd immunity thing wasn't the reason I posted the article, but you made some good points there.

I know, but in the end you have to focus on the bottom line. Otherwise you will get lost in the mess of data and conspiracy theories. Therefore if you focus on the bottom line which towards all mainstream science is "Stay away from this virus anyway you can", it is much easier to set general direction of what should you do.

Regarding the driving with the mask posts: Well, if you drive 10 blocks then it perhaps better to keep your mask on. Here there is guideline that you shouldn't touch your mask too much if possible. Eventually your hands will get dirty and therefore if you will touch it with such hands you can perhaps infect yourself. Therefore if you are going to take it on or off every 5 minutes in some situations it is perhaps better that you don't wear it. In the case you can't wash your hands.

Plus it is almost certain that towards the numbers global daily record of almost 250 000 will be broken today.

Are you accusing me of conspiracy theories? Gosh. I hate you. Just kidding. lol. They did make it political though.....I might talk to you more about my so-called conspiracy theories later.

Antibody study shows coronavirus infections much higher than previously reported

Data released Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the number of coronavirus cases in different parts of the United States was sometimes 2 to 13 times higher than the reported rates in the areas.

“These data continue to show that the number of people who have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 far exceeds the number of reported cases,” Dr. Fiona Havers, the CDC researcher who headed up the study, said. “Many of these people likely had no symptoms or mild illness and may have had no idea that they were infected.”

The numbers, based on a study of antibody testing results, suggest a large population of people contracted the virus but did not experience symptoms or see a doctor.

An uptick in coronavirus cases has been reported across the country in recent weeks, while the daily death count has been consistently dropping. Questions and concerns have been raised about the way hospitals and government agencies have been coding deaths and reporting the infections.

An investigation in Florida showed that the number of positive tests at several hospitals is much lower than reported by the state’s health department. And in Texas, more than 3,000 coronavirus cases were recently removed from the list of probable coronavirus deaths.

Similarly, a state health official in Florida admitted that a man who died in a motorcycle accident was coded as a coronavirus death raising questions similar to those asked by coroners across the country, including in Colorado and Pennsylvania, who are unsure why some people are being counted as coronavirus deaths when that was not the actual cause of death.

Lots of cases of something lately. I wonder what percentage of these are COVID-19 rather than the common cold?

A positive test result shows you may have antibodies from an infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. However, there is a chance a positive result means that you have antibodies from an infection with a virus from the same family of viruses (called coronaviruses), such as the one that causes the common cold.

A while back, I was watching a White House press conference on CSPAN. All the reporters were out on the lawn, wearing masks and social distancing 6 feet from each other. When the news conference was over and most cameras were put away, the reporters started huddling together to chat and they took off their masks. That tells me all I need to know about what they think of coronavirus. It's been politicized for sure.

I don't think the after effects of this are ever going away though. This is part of our culture now.

If you can, please provide a direct link to the video footage you're referencing.

I can't speak for the reporters you mentioned, but my entire organization has voluntary shifted to remote work through the end of the year, as has my wife's. And she's working on a number of COVID-related studies. The idea that politics is substantially involved in these decisions is dubious. People are making informed decisions commensurate with the perceived risks. Personally, I have some concern about contracting the virus and have pretty much been confined to my home for the last 4 months.

I want to understand where you're coming from on this. It seems like you've become convinced that there are dark forces at play here, manipulating the masses for... for what? No doubt people and organizations lie. The notion that China withheld information is, in my opinion, beyond doubt...but it likely wasn't to harm anyone else or, say, hurt Trump's reelection chances. It's simple self-preservation. I don't think they understood the sheer extend of the pandemic at that time, and made a calculated decision to hide what was going on in the hopes of everything working out in the end. But it didn't. In many ways, it's the same sort of behavior that Trump engaged in when he downplayed this whole thing until very recently, because he too didn't truly grasp the magnitude (though in his case the data was pretty clear).

Please help me understand where you're coming from.

Who the hell doesn't know members of the press are required to be tested for COVID before every briefing? If you are being tested on a daily basis, would you be more or less likely to wear a mask 24/7? Use your head - or at least try.

Update: Leading indicators show Florida’s COVID-19 curve starting to flatten | The Capitolist
Texas Passes 4,000 Deaths, But Houston Sees Rates Steady – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Deaths are catching up with with propagation but the curve seems to be flattening, except in California unfortunately.

Coronavirus: California reports record number of new COVID-19 cases - ABC30 Fresno

For the most part I think americans are getting the hang of this, or starting to. Hot spots crop up, testing points them out, people get more careful, hospitals remain at or below capacity. Rinse wash repeat. Curious to see how we have improved at treating it- what the death count will look like for this second wave- or second part of the first wave, whatever you want to call it- compared with the first. I hope we can avoid lockdowns, if for no other reason than to have some kind of control group to measure the effects of the first lockdowns- the effects of lockdowns in general. Also curious to know exactly how helpful they are. Be good data to have moving forwards to help decide how worth it it is overall.

New one is 280 000. The deaths are also a record since April.

Also regarding lockdowns. The goal of a lockdown isn't just to prevent new cases but to provide time to adjust the system to the new normal. In other words: stockpile the masks that everyone will wear, since global production was completely out of touch with the new demand. Same is with hand sanitizers and gloves. Hospitals needed to internally adjust for this mess in order to increase their capacity for this disease. Etc.

I'm afraid not.

China was letting people in Wuhan travel to anywhere in the world, except not to the rest of China. Why? I don't know, but it seems like they knew that disease was bad news bears.

Trump's Flawed China Travel Conspiracy - FactCheck.org

Flight records show China did block international commercial flights out of Wuhan after Jan. 23, according to Flightradar24, a global flight tracking service.

It appears the origin of Trump’s misguided speculation may be an op-ed by a Harvard professor who later “updated” his column to acknowledge that flight data does not confirm that China continued to allow commercial flights to various international destinations, including the U.S., after Jan. 23.

More than a week after the record had been set straight, though, Trump raised the bogus talking point during a press conference.

Wake up, sheeple! Don't fall for the Democratic media hysteria! The masks are about one thing and one thing only: CONTROL(ling the spread of the virus).

A Doctor Who Specializes in Long-Term COVID-19 Effects Is Alarmed by What He Sees

A Specialist Sounds the Alarm on Long-Term COVID-19 Effects

Yes! Thank you! I wish more people would wake up to this. It's very real! We're going to need significant changes to health (and social) care in order to help patients with long-term infections and post-viral syndromes.

I am extremely worried over how things will be for fall and winter.

We're going to be feeling the effects of this for many long years to come.

One Trump supporter, Crystal Lynn, an administrative assistant in Fairfax, Virginia, says she does not like wearing masks because they make her skin break out. Besides that, she says that she does not think that masks work: "It's a false sense of security." She puts on her seat belt when driving because she knows they can save your life. But masks are not "in the same category", she says: "I don't think a mask protects you in any way."

Kind of like wearing a condom is a false sense of security. Just say no to masks for dicks. Dicks need their freedom, now!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has set a bar of 50% efficacy of any vaccine, and will have to determine the technology’s potential compared to traditional vaccines.

That's even worse than I imagined.
