One of the few things I liked about GW Bush was how he personally volunteered for a smallpox shot back when there was a scare in 2002. Despite concerns about the vaccines causing illness.

I'll take a covid-19 vaccine when it's available, and this is coming from a person who doesn't even get a flu shot every year. If it kills me, maybe smarty pants vaccine scientists can learn why and it will save others.

Once again we have very clear east-west divide in Europe. Is it due to less testing or the fact that the east is much less involved in global trade, that the culture of social events and eating out of the house is less developed, that population density is smaller, that people travel less ... it remains to be determined. Probably it is both because this is really day and night.

Yeah, I wasn't referring prudent people who exercise caution-- I was talking more about the extremists who insist things like, the measles vaccine cause autism, etc. Given how scary COVID19 is, i think it'd be funny on some level if they change their tune when a vaccine comes out. Just a passing thought. But, I suppose I shouldn't derail the thead further, though.

Yeah, I 've always had the same opinion of religious people when they actually find a way to indefinitely expand healthy lifespan. Suddenly the same people who say that 'living longer would be boring and unnatural etc." would start making a 180 on their willingness to meet their makers at the preordained time. I mean it will happen at some point, and it's going to be hilarious.

I plotted the new coronavirus cases in Libre Office and got this exponential curve equation:

f(x) = 10.582866547 exp (0.304629469 x);
R^2 = 0.9598674594

We're 15 data points in starting March 1st, so if you plug in 16 for x, you can expect to get 1385 new cases tomorrow.

1878 new cases Wednesday;
2547 new cases Thursday;
3454 new cases Friday.

If we don't see something close to these figures, then that means the shape of the curve has changed. For example, yesterday's data point was 737 new cases. It should've been 1,021 new cases. It's too early to celebrate, but we may already be seeing the fruits of the various control measures taking effect.

It'd be interesting to compare the epidemic curves of France and Italy to the USA, but I'm too apathetic to do so. I suspect the Europeans will have a much harder time because of smaller dwellings and more crowded living conditions.

Our town closed down most public places. On their official website there's a list: schools, libraries, bars and restaurants, playgrounds, sports places, etc.... and casinos and brothels! (prostitution is legal)

Now I can't stop imagining how some cops will have to check in at the local brothel once in a while as part of their routine to make sure they have properly closed down.

I sense that the way of these Governments trying to slow down infections case number by locking down, putting infected people under quarantine, promoting social distancing are perhaps partly as a result of inavailability of vaccines. It might be worrisome for them that since people are not vaccinated, they are absolutely not immune to corona virus infections. However, is it possible that unvaccinated people are still immune to infections ?Could it be any other way than vaccination so that we become immune to infections? Is that true that vaccination the only way to get ourselves immune that without it we will certainly get infected by the virus carrier? When the vaccine is available and we get vaccinated hence expectedly immune ,will we be guaranteed not to get infected even if we have close contact with patient already infected ?

I am restating what many probably already know, but fwiw: the two main concerns are that it is actually a new virus that the human population has not responded to yet, so it is not known the degree of immunity that people will have. The second concern is the virus mutating. I think quickly spreading and being left unchecked would speed up the possibility of mutations as well. There are two strains identified - one more severe than the other.

If you get bored, take a crew of at least 20 out bar and club hopping, and maybe go sit in a large crowd somewhere to relax, just make sure you get back to the raging party eventually afterwards and stay there. Why not in a few months?

First it has to be developed, then it has to be tested, then it has to be produced and then it has to be distributed. That takes time, normally years, under these special circumstances and the concerted effort maybe a year. You don't want to administer an untested vaccine to hundreds of millions of people.
