You miss the point, yet again. The post you were responding to wasn't generalizing either. It said: "For the alt-right and conservative members who lap up the misinformation, some of you [i.e. conservatives who lap of the information] are also dying" and then he posted a link to the article. Nothing was said about all conservatives lapping up misinformation. And at least in this case, the relevance of the "conservative" qualifier was clear; i.e. he was talking to a particular group of misinformed conservatives about another misinformed conservative. Your inclusion of the "liberal donors" qualifier was a immaterial, except to associate their ignorance with liberalism in a roundabout way. Think.

Yeah, just also ignore all the pre-context too. Rav3n specifically believes me, and many others are Nazi trolls and constantly generalizes any right wing views as such. (her previous name was bechimo). Her opinion(rav3n is a girl iirc) is pretty biased, and seeing you defend her, even if links are valid(?) means literally nothing. This is all a popularity contest at the end of the day. Quit pretending like it's intellectual discussion. I wasn't reading any links, because that too, doesn't matter. None of this does. Quicker we get to that universal realization, the sooner we can stop acting like pretentious know-it-alls in politics. It is all bloody opinion at the end of the day.

A little bit of silliness

My nephew is having a birthday tomorrow, and his mom asked a bunch of us to create short videos for him since we can't actually have an in-person birthday party. They live on the east coast and he's never visited San Francisco, but he did send us back with his favorite stuffed animal, "Puffy Stuffy," the last time we visited. So Kate and I took some time this afternoon to take PF on a bike ride around San Francisco...the video is 4 minutes long and you'll need to have your speakers on!

Just thought it was a nice reminder that there's still time for a little bit of silliness now and again, even in the midst of all this tumult.

-Has the genome of COVID-19 been decoded and verified?

-Which test is used for COVID-19? (Specifically)

-Are there tests that can differentiate COVID-19 from the other coronavuri currently known to medical science?

- Yes, the genome was first made available by the Chinese on january 10th and has since been analyzed by researchers in the UK and several other countries. For example, a week ago Austria presented its own genome data based on Austrian cases.

- There are different types of test depending on whether you want to know if someone has or had the virus. The most reliable test for a current infection is a PCR test (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction - Wikipedia). It only shows an active infection. If the infection is already declining it will come up negative but you could be tested for antibodies (first you develop IgM antibodies, then IgG). However, these only tests require both a high sensitivity (meaning you don't want them to miss low levels of antibodies) as well as specificity (meaning you don't want them to confuse SARS-CoV-2 with another similar Coronavirus). That balance is the main challenge in developing good antibody tests. A quick alternative at the beginning of an infection with a high viral load and faster than PCR is a antigen test (ELISA - Wikipedia)

- Yes, there are. Very reliably so if you are talking about the virus. A little less so if you mean antibodies against it. As mentioned above, a balance has to be struck. Some are already available but, last time I checked, still unreliable. Others are currently being worked on. They are likely to come out in the next few weeks. They will probably first be used on doctors and nurses and care workers though. It'll take a while before they will be available to the general public. At least a few months, I'd say.

All of this information is freely available.

Geezus.

I assumed those were genuine questions and actually invested time in answering them before you added that video. *sigh*

I posted that video explaining how the RT-PCR is tested along with those questions Red Herring answered, and when I saw my post was deleted, I reposted the video which answered my questions to which it was again, deleted. (and I know which mod it was so I’d like her to explain why my posts were deleted, and not moved to OT if that was the basis for the deletion)

Lots of people protesting at the capital of my state this afternoon, half-ass social distancing. I've always thought protestors were stupid in general, but I'm a bit surprised conservative groups were the first to start with this since that's typically more of a progressive past time.

On the other hand these are extraordinary circumstances, and our governer has taken excessively draconian measures on the entire state for the sake of the three densely populated (infected) counties in the southeastern corner that got her elected.

On the other hand, it's nice to feel safe and a few months is not that long to make some sacrifices and significantly alter behavior. The way a lot of these people sound and act you'd think they'd been locked in the Chateau d' If for 13 years.

On the other hand attitude and trajectory are important factors, and avoiding a horrific depression could rely turning the economic downturn around before it's too late for it to do any bouncing back at all. The economy is suffocating exponentially. Riots could be on their way, especially if there's a food shortage.

On the other hand we are only part of the way through our campaign to flatten the curve, and that deserves follow through, especially since there are indicators that it is working.

On the other hand what is even the point of doing so if there will be a second wave regardless as soon as the economy is reopened? Maybe if a vaccine or treatment were on the way, but I don't see any indications that it will be here in time to rescue the economy from ruining just about everyone, if nothing is done to reopen it in the meantime.

What to do what to do.

Also apparently everyone is at each other's throats again over the odd notion that they are dealing with dogs, not human beings. You would think that, at the very least, they could treat them the way you're supposed to treat dogs (positive reinforcement) rather than the usual yelling and attempts at punishment I only ever seem to see.

Stay away from chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine. They're both highly toxic, especially chloroquine, and there's no benefit to taking them.

Anti-malarial treatment hailed by Trump has no benefit for coronavirus patients, French researchers find | South China Morning Post

So a French team, led by Matthieu Mahevas of the University of Paris-Est, decided to investigate what happened in a “real-world setting”. They pulled the medical records from four hospitals in France of 181 patients of similar gender, age and health conditions. All the patients required oxygen because of lung infections caused by the virus.

The researchers said these patients were more representative of those admitted to hospitals swamped by the pandemic than those in some previous studies. The Wuhan trial, for instance, recruited only patients with mild symptoms, whose chance of recovery was high, even without treatment.

Among the patients who took hydroxychloroquine upon admission, 20.5 per cent had entered the intensive care unit or had died within a week. Among the patients who did not take the drug, the rate of ICU admission or mortality within a week was 22.1 per cent. The researchers said statistically there was no difference between the two groups.

“In conclusion, we found that hydroxychloroquine did not significantly reduce admission to ICU or death at day seven after hospital admission, or acute respiratory distress syndrome in hospitalised patients with hypoxemic pneumonia due to Covid-19,” the authors said.

“These results are of major importance and do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine in patients hospitalised for a documented Sars-CoV-2 pneumonia,” they added.

And on the other hand, you have other fingers!

I saw the story covered on Fox News. It was a weird that all those older people couldn't just stay home. Most of them looked like they'd be retired. They were complaining about not being able to garden or go to a salon. Must not be taking it seriously. I bet they've been listening to Fucker Carlson downplaying the risk.

Apparently this was the Ohio version. I have no idea why someone would have a tough time believing conservatives would be doing such a thing ...

This is why you must end the free traveling between the regions. Since once you clean up a region/state it will become relatively safe and people will be able to go to work with relatively reasonable risks. Even if they will probably still need gloves and masks in many situations. While the transportation of goods should be maintained and people involved in that should be tested on regular basis.

From what I gathered this is the general plan here and this is why we are in a hurry to flatten the curve and clear the active cases. It isn't ideal but this is something that should work on the the longer run until cure if found. Plus since the whole global market is stunned we are boosting and expanding our own local manufacturing. Something your state could use as well.

I'm glad you think people who attend protests aren't normal. We can agree there. My FB page today was a beautiful harmony of every single progressive friend I have, who have attended every type of protest under the sun in the past, sounding off in unison their absolute rage with the protesters and demanding that anybody who doesn't share their rage unfriend or block them. If anyone in the comments even hinted at any semblance of discord with the borg- like the insane notion that you should respect people that have different opinions- they too were blocked.

I don't get the "safe space" thing. The last place in the world I feel safe is in an echo chamber of my own values. Hence my presence here.

You could just round up these irresponsible protestors and quarantine them.

I do not understand why people cannot comprehend the concept and need for just staying the f*ck at home for all things considered a relatively short time period. Are they not seeing the numbers? :(

(I do 'get it', many people are fools, but that doesn't make me feel any better about it)
