So it appears that #hydroxycloroquine is trending on twitter with most people pointing out the treatment is a lot of bullshit and a farce. ...then I noticed that it's spelled wrong, it's #hydroxychloroquine. sigh, the general public really seems to utterly suck when it comes to chemistry even when most seem to get it :BangHead:
So they left a hydrogen atom off when they created their imaginary cure.

This has been reported for discussion by the modstaff. The ongoing COVID-19 situation is a global pandemic that goes well beyond the medical situations usually discussed here. If this forum cannot be part of the solution, we should at least ensure we do not exacerbate the problem.

As with anything else, prompt and thoughtful self-regulation may forestall the need for imposed regulation by the "authorities". Translation: please consider carefully the soundness of what you post, and provide links where possible so readers can follow up. Remember, just because someone has "M.D." after their name doesn't guarantee they are infallible, free from bias, or even know what they are talking about.

More later.
The forum will follow the example of Facebook in removing misinformation and warning members who post it. Continuing to post will result in a tempban.

Question:

What should one do if one sees disinformation? Is it ok to respond to it? If so in what capacity? Or would it be better to simply ignore it/report it? What amount are the members responsible for in policing this themselves?

TBH this should probably gets its own thread in announcements as I suspect a lot of people will have questions on how to approach this.

Trump has to have stock in that wack drug he’s prescribing for everyone. Listen to how he talks about it.

lol

Trump and associates have financial stake in potential coronavirus drug hydroxychloroquine, according to report | News Hits

And Chirag Patel, co-founder of Amneal Pharmaceuticals, a generic drugmaker that is preparing to manufacture hydroxychloroquine pills, is a member of Trump National Golf Course Bedminster in New Jersey and an occasional golfing buddy of Trump's, according to the report.

If you choose to respond, keep it constructive. Focus on facts, or ask questions to get clarification or evidence. You can always report it instead, or in addition.

Oh the radio today, I heard Ohio is below the prediction model for the 8th day in a row. Good job Ohio! DeWine is doing a great job with his aggressive policies in preventing the spread. Ohio is not expected to exhaust its supplies either. So this is on a positive note.

How many people are wearing masks and if so, where are you getting them?

I have been wondering this, since many states are now advising people to wear a covering. Obviously medical grade masks that truly do a lot of good are in short supply, and should 100% be dedicated to medical staff.

All of the homemade cloth ones, meh. I mean, they are good I guess for social approval and going through the motions of trying to do your part. I'll be wearing a bandana and being a bandit when I go to a grocery store next (as that is what I have), and it will catch my spittle should I sneeze or cough, thus protecting other people from me, which is of course good, but I'm not under any illusion it will be filtering much of anything above 15%.

After N-95 and surgical masks, apparently origami vacuum bags, double layer quilting fabric, and double layer furnace filters are the next best materials, then 4 layer 600 count pillow cases followed by coffee filters.

I can't find it, most I see are wearing scarves or bandanas over your face. Even so it is more a precaution of you not giving it to someone else moreso than keeping you from getting it.

Corona started, work went and disappeared into nothingness. Life became boring.
Started writing.
Hit block.
So boring again.

I've been sitting at home for a month now and I am just now starting to realize just how lonely of an existence I am living without work to fall back on. Guess I'll watch some Netflix.
