If you're including me in your 'you guys' statement, I have no idea why. I didn't make any commentary of my own on the article. What I found relevant, and why I separated out the quote that I did, was the lack of communication and direction, thus governors are potentially trying to obtain things because they do not have any clear idea on whether they will get it otherwise.

Edit: Also the topic itself seems highly relevant and problematic, given high needs all around and lack of direction and, well, clear leadership. The fact is, it's happening. That's why I shared the article.

"You guys" includes anyone executing this kind of behavior right now:

Trump Veers Off to Attack Ukraine Whistleblower at Coronavirus Briefing

The prioritization of attacking political opponents over having anything productive or constructive to say on the pandemic at hand. It looks just as petty as when Trump does it. You're almost figuratively the same person if you do.

New York and California got a freaking ship; that's preferential treatment. What's the difference between New York and every other state? Why are the outcomes 20 times worse in New York? Maybe New Yorkers shouldn't be in subways or crowded elevators? I don't think New Yorkers are taking this seriously until the past week and it's already a bit late; that's on Governor Cuomo.

I'd like to see Nebraska get a ship.

Ha.

Nebraska's doing great. You guys have 4 deaths/million people; New York has 212 deaths/million people. Maybe someone from the CDC needs to step in and review how New York hospitals are treating patients. Here in California, we have twice the population of New York and we only had 44 deaths yesterday. It's not even noon here and New York already has 570 deaths.

Your use of data is borderline criminal, and perfectly illustrates the problem with the abundance of "information" available to the average person on the internet.

19 people killed in Mexico gang shootout

However if this erupts there will surely be civilian victims.

I recently saw a report on a positive sideeffect (besides the ecological benefits of an economic shutdown): As most will have heard, AirBNB is considered a serious problem in many cities that are popular with tourists as it takes valuable living space away from local inhabitants. Well, apparently the corona measures already have a palpable effect on rent prises in cities like Prague. Rents have gone down and more apartments are available to let.

So it appears that #hydroxycloroquine is trending on twitter with most people pointing out the treatment is a lot of bullshit and a farce.

...then I noticed that it's spelled wrong, it's #hydroxychloroquine. sigh, the general public really seems to utterly suck when it comes to chemistry even when most seem to get it :BangHead:

It always makes me laugh when experts state the obvious as if they're being an expert.

From the New York Times "Morning Briefing" email:

Betsey Stevenson, a University of Michigan economist, warned, "It’s also quite likely that we will need to figure out how to reopen the economy with the virus remaining a threat."
