House Dems' emergency coronavirus stimulus bill includes $35M for Kennedy Center
This is just the tip of the iceberg; there are many "poison pills" from the House Dems version of the Stimulus; they put these in because they know that responsible Republicans like Rand Paul would vote against reckless spending. Once the Republicans vote against it, the Dems would be able to blame the Republicans for not helping people. It's a despicable move but this is the m.o. of today's Dem party: Let no crises go to waste.
Oh, you mean like this?

Let's get real here. The two sides have different priorities and crafting legislation involves compromise.
That component of the bill is meant to offset the impact of fewer patrons visiting as a result of the coronavirus:
"For an additional amount for 'Operations and Maintenance,' $35,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2021, for operations and maintenance requirements related to the consequenees of coronavirus: Provided, That notwithstanding the provisions of 20 U.S.C. 76th et seq., funds provided in this Act shall be made available to cover operating expenses required to ensure the continuity of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and its affiliates, including for employee compensation and benefits, grants, contracts, payments for rent or utilities, fees for artists or performers, information technology and other administrative expenses,"
Believe it or not, employee compensation, grants, contracts, payments for rent or utilities, etc. impact real people and businesses too. Just because you think it's irrelevant doesn't mean it is.
