I waited that data gathers and towards worldometer yesterday was new global daily record: 382 100

While today could be even worse. Especially since in most of Europe there is the flood of new cases.
Hint: France: +30 600

Daily new infections keep rising here in Germany. The RKI just reported over 5000 new infections for yesterday. The current strategy is to ramp up measures locally wherever there are more than 35 or 50 new infections per 100.000 inhabitants within 7 days. There are already some travel restrictions and there is talk of other more severe measures like a return back to the "no meetings of people from more than two households" rule from spring (in fact at the beginning of april the rule was no meeting of more than two persons who are not from the same household - And that is still lax compared to what they had in Italy, Spain and France!). The national and the regional governments are currently discussing an extention of compulsory mask wearing (right now they are compulsory in shops, in public buildings and on public transport).

In the Netherlands several hospitals in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague had to temporarily close their ICUs and send away people because they were overfilled. They'll likely now finally introduce compulsory masks as they had so far been voluntary.

In Switzerland new infections have doubled within just five days.

Moscow has returned to tele-teaching students. Northern Ireland extends the autumn school break.

The Czech republic is especially severely hit with the highest number of new infections in Europe.

The list goes on but you get the idea...

To be fully honest I think that most of the leadership around the continent played their cards fundamentally wrong. The cases are clearly going up since early September and for the most part they kinda ignored the problem by good margin. So now there will probably be various lockdowns all over the place, since the system probably can't really hold this together. I mean the economic damage from so many sick people will surely cost more and create more drama on the long run that a quick and strong lockdown. That should "pump this out" for the most part.

Chris Christie says he spent 7 days in ICU before recovering from Covid - CNNPolitics

"Having had this virus, I can also assure those who have not had it of a few things. It is something to take very seriously," Christie said.
"I believed that when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that and I and many others underwent every day. I was wrong," Christie said Thursday.
"I was wrong to not wear a mask at the Amy Coney Barrett announcement and I was wrong not to wear a mask at my multiple debate prep sessions with the President and the rest of the team. I hope that my experience shows my fellow citizens that you should follow CDC guidelines in public no matter where you are and wear a mask to protect yourself and others."

New global record is 399 000. But since certain countries are rounding up all of their data the day after it is quite possible that this will pass 400 000 a day for the first time.

US: +66 100
The worst day since July.

New global daily record is 413 100.

US +71 700
Therefore with current trend we could see new daily records for the country next week. What can wobble the race on a number of ways (from negative coverage to people not voting in person).

German president Steinmeier is selfisolating because one of his bodyguards tested positive. Merkel as well as two of her cabinet ministers did the same during the first wave, even though none of them ended up testing positive.

Yesterday my city moved to code yellow because we now have more than 35/100.000 new cases over seven days. The entire federal state will follow on monday. Specifically that means compulsory masks in crowded open spaces like pedestrian shopping streets, markets, etc and a maximum of 15 participants for private celebrations, 25 if public. Masks and social distancing in public transport, public buildings and shops have already been mandatory since late april and still remains in force.

And yeah, humanity being what it is, toilet paper immediately sold out at our local supermarket. Good thing we saw this coming months ago and have a spare package.

Update to the above situation: our other (small, crappy) supermarket seemed oddly prepared, which is out of character - but now we are the proud owners of a huge stash of scented toilet paper with dancing yoga cats.

We'll know which strategy works at the end of winter. Spain's Daily New Cases curve and Daily Deaths curve are disconcerting. Sweden is still doing great but Winter is coming.
