Murdered by their landlord.

This really sucks. Plainfield is directly next to the town I grew up in and lived in for a good part of adulthood. Though I've been living next to Indiana Dunes for a while (because my dad is super old, and shouldn't live by himself), I still far prefer the people near Plainfield than the people here. I can usually hear at least a couple different languages being spoken when shopping in that area and there's a mutual respect amongst people that i dont see out here; it's just angry white trash (attitude, not income level) blaming 'others' (immigrants, government, etc) for how hard their day was. I mean sure, they're friendly to each other - which, it seems to me, is the kind of warm camaraderie they pride themselves on and mistake for kindness - but they can't seem to utter five sentences without one of them being xenophobic, or blaming the government for taking their freedom (aka: protecting others from harm), or how no one wants to work (aka: people demanding a living wage for their labor).

And sure, there are pockets of that^ in Plainfield. Most of the residential territory is new; it was all cornfields while I was growing up. But even those pockets are more tolerant of differences than people here - they have to be, they live immersed in it (and studies have proven that regular exposure to a group significantly reduces prejudice towards them, where/when the prejudice isn't warranted).

It just really sucks to see this in Plainfield.

I actually saw a statement from JB Pritzker before I saw anything about what happened. Meanwhile in Israel, a Israeli journalist that stated maybe stopping the killing was a good idea, is probably going to end up dead after getting run out of his home.

I heard someone asking why Americans don't seem concerned Gaza is 50% children. I just wanted to say - my dude, there is a good chunk of America that doesn't care if their own children are mowed down as long as it doesn't impinge their comfort and ability to buy as many firearms as they want.

The above sounds as standard paranoia issues, which got channeled through politics.
The difference is they are getting a call to action. That's what right wing media does and that's certainly what Trump has done and continues to do every time he speaks.

"Somebody should do something about problem XYZ"
"The <insert thing> is going to take your jobs, someone should do something about that."
"<insert cultural or ethnic customs, language or appearance> This is American, act and look American, speak English! GTFO out of my country!"

I'm pretty paranoid, according to one mental health professional I'm the least relaxed and most paranoid patient they'd had to that particular date. I've some how managed to restrain myself from knifing women and children to death. "Get them before they get you", is not just a voice of mere paranoia, its an inference that comes from outside interference. If you're paranoid you go grey. If you up and just kill someone, you're not paranoid. You're triggered and most people when they're triggered start following a script written in our genes and conditioned by popular culture to mimic. But then there's always the possibility that like Buffalo Bill, he just coveted till he found the right justification to himself to take life. Killers arent born in a vaccum and programming is from the cradle to the grave. Standard yes, but I don't think its just paranoia. If you're just paranoid...you run hide and hole up. You don't invite roommates or tenants.

Like @ceecee said earlier. Calls to arms are going out for anyone who's gullible, miserable, or crazy enough to answer them.

Once you create a monster you should start expecting angry villagers, especially when you've spent 50+ years turning the angry villagers into monsters. Everything comes down to fashion.
Fashion dictates what is normal. Whatever becomes normal...Well fashion is always brutal.

I'm pleased to see Jordan appears to have failed in his bid for speaker. It's a baby step, but it's nice to see a bit of push back from Republicans against the Trump sycophant crowd.

Dear leader's word doesnt pull the power it used to. A king is only a king when enough people believe it to be so.

Of course, but I deliberately kept my comment as one liner in order to keep it simple. Which is because I didn't want to go into the details such as this. My point was simply that modern media format is good at triggering paranoia in people. As well as pushing troubled people over the edge. Since at this point you basically have 24/7 ideological campaigns that are coming out of new technologies. What evidently isn't good for anyone's mental health or general social stability.

I'm disappointed in the sweetheart plea deals for Powell and Cheseboro, although not surprised. It seems all politicians (and apparently lawyers) get off with a wrist slap when caught red handed doing wrong.

Powell gets no jail time, no criminal record, and a meagre fine (an amount trivial for a lawyer). It seems there will be no consequences to her ability to practice law either (although that is TBD, but I expect no censure). Cheseboro gets the same deal I assume.

I realize these deals are all about getting them to flip on Trump, but at least give them a criminal record so they cannot practice law anymore. At least half of the havoc Trump manages to create is his ability to get crooked lawyers to constantly bog down the courts with nonsensical arguments. Punish some of these shysters, and far fewer of them would be willing to go to bat for Trump. That would seriously cripple his modus operandi.

But no, zero significant consequences and a free pass seems to be the order of the day.
