We'll either be stuck with a pro-temp Mchenry, Jim Jordan, or Scalise. Not much will change given the legislative outlook from the majority. Heard rumblings that Scalise might be cobbling together enough votes.

When they call us racist the best response is "OK". Don't give their "words of power" one second of power.

I won't operate within anyone's framing of the debate except my own, to do otherwise is like playing a football game with their refs.

Absolutely not. I would not be suprised if Boebert or Marge Green were put forward as candidates at some point either.

Okay, so 80+ people voted for Jordan when Scalese ran and won.
So if Scalese is out, who did all these no votes (81 of them) vote for?

I worry the moderate Republicans will cave and elect Jordan just due to pressure from the Israel crisis (and to some extent to stop looking like clowns).

Part of the problem with MAGA type extremists is they are willing to burn the entire house down to get their way. More reasonable people tend to lose in games of chicken with those types, resulting in poor outcomes. Hopefully, enough of the moderates are willing to stand their ground, but I'm not confident.

To add insult to injury, Jordan is Trump's horse. More fuel for that Trump's ego is the last thing the world needs.

Or the Palestinian teenager who was kidnapped by Jewish settlers incited by Netanyahu’s demagogy, forced to drink gasoline, beaten to death, and set on fire and the subsequent HBO series 'Our Boys' made about it that was blasted as anti-Semitic, is 'committing a terror attack against democracy'.

I read about a pending mandatory mass evacuation, as I'm sure you have. It reminds me of the use of bulldozers as a security tactiic in the West Bank when I was in high school.

I vaguely know of Dr. Gabor Mate but I know he is a Jew and escaped concentration camps as an infant and lost most of his family. This is a fairly short, pretty precise summary of Israel and the Palestinians. It's a good watch.

Yeah I liked that ongoing conversation too - this is what you want to see in media of all kinds. The one positive to take from all that is happening in Gaza is that detail and information cannot be hidden as it once was by the Israelis or the western powers. Bootlicking corporate media can try but the more they try to hide, block or suppress, the more blind support they lose.

The fact is that they as a party need to elect new speaker as soon as possible. Since otherwise they are the ones that will be blamed for all the resulting mess in 2024 polls. In other words they will now elect just about anyone that comes along because they have to clean up the mess they made in the house. So all of this was probably the plan all along.
