If some small mercies buy larger justice is it not worth it?

I rather suspect The price they paid for those sweet heart deals will yield very interesting results in the future.

I'm disappointed in the sweetheart plea deals for Powell and Cheseboro, although not surprised. It seems all politicians (and apparently lawyers) get off with a wrist slap when caught red handed doing wrong.

Powell gets no jail time, no criminal record, and a meagre fine (an amount trivial for a lawyer). It seems there will be no consequences to her ability to practice law either (although that is TBD, but I expect no censure). Cheseboro gets the same deal I assume.

I realize these deals are all about getting them to flip on Trump, but at least give them a criminal record so they cannot practice law anymore. At least half of the havoc Trump manages to create is his ability to get crooked lawyers to constantly bog down the courts with nonsensical arguments. Punish some of these shysters, and far fewer of them would be willing to go to bat for Trump. That would seriously cripple his modus operandi.

But no, zero significant consequences and a free pass seems to be the order of the day.

Still too many if's, but's, mabye's, and could be's for my liking. She's an overtly corrupt lawyer. Immediate disbarment is called for. Did you notice the comment that disbarment could takes 'months or years' in that article? Years I'd guess, or until her malfeasance has been forgotten and the news cycle has moved on (and then never) is more likely.

There is a serious oversight problem here, and the powers that be seem to be incentivized to encourage the status quo. Drop the hammer on some of these shysters and a vast improvement in the justice system would result. Alas, it won't happen.

I ranted about the same things during the ridiculous (63 I believe) lawsuits about the election that got tossed back in 2020. But none of the specious legal arguments brought forward at that time had any negative consequences for the lawyers. So history repeats.

GOP really shot itself in the foot with the mess in the house and this alone could lead to blue house in 2024. They really failed at the test of the most basic stability in the times of evident crisis.

Republican primary polls:

Emerson: Trump 59, DeSantis 8 ...
Harvard Harris: Trump 60, DeSantis 11 ...

If we don't count legal shenanigans this is a done deal.

Living Dinosaur Newly Photographed in Loch Ness a hoax? Is this the end of photographic truth?
In other News Deja Vu; is your reality a simulation? Depending on your definition of "semantics" then the answer may surprise you. While I do think its important to learn to recognize what is or isnt a real thing happening vs a fever dream of internet madness, I do have concerns over the news media's seeming legacy of being incapable of telling the difference between a bicycle crash and the collapse of civilization as we know it. It's certainly alarming the perceived future dangers of ai, and we should very much be doing an ounce of preparation BEFORE we need a pound of cure, but they gotta stop pretending that the way they report this stuff is in any way designed to inform but rather to incite. We've got a snake eating its own tail and everything seems designed to make people step on the gas when they maybe should pump the brake, but no one can get a clear sense of how to even go about thinking about it for themselves because everyone is screaming everything and trying to back it up with anything. This is how you collapse a society without having too many people wondering whether or not it was you. Dance Fuckers Dance. Someone's gonna go far kids. Too bad the pier is shorter than anyone seems and there's an ancient prehistoric evil lurking just under the seemingly tranquil dark waters of the human condition. Fear. And it's a mind killer. Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water of life. Check your sources kiddos. And check your sources sources. Paranoid? Maybe, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isnt an entire media empire hoping to capitalize off of of your fears and insecurities.

Republican internal poll shows that Democratic governor of Kentucky will be reelected by 2 points (and it isn't first poll like that).

It is simply strange that so red state would do such a thing. This is a Trump +25 state. Not to mention Mitch and others.
That is all ok, but this is simply logic that doesn't really add up when you think about it.

Seems strange, could be misleading polling. Similar to what happened in Argentina (people say they will vote for the chainsaw guy, but have a sober second thought when they go to vote). Could be the same with lifelong Republicans, say they will vote Democrat (probably due to the dysfunction in the House) but go back to their old ways when they actually fill out the ballot.

The last R governor of KY was totally batshit insane. He was also notoriously unpopular with nearly every faction of the state. Fast forward, abortion is almost entirely banned, the typical draconian classroom bullshit, book banning and so on and the Republican running against Andy Basher thinks things are going great and keeps defending the abortion ban. I think a Dem governor can veto the worst impulses the right wing legislature has there but they have to do much more than just keep the governor Democratic.
