The polarized hysteria is beginning to put me to sleep with its familiar white noise buzzing.

Friendly reminder to all concerned for the sake of good mental health:

1) You can't control other people. Thinking you can, or wanting to, is irrational.
2) You can control yourself. This includes things you say. This includes things you say to people whose behavior you are disturbed by.
3) The only way you can influence other people's behavior without self-defeating side effects is persuasion, bribery, or exchange (Newton's third law).

Your chances of having something like this taken seriously would be better if you weren't a significant contributor to the white noise buzzing yourself.

It seems like this thread has predominantly become a place to show up and spray scattershot venting to one's own respective side, because that's what we all made it. I'd personally love to see attempts from the right at persuasion/influencing, but there haven't been any - just a bunch of pettifogging and deflection. Actual dialogue requires more focus and no one seems willing to go there. I will agree that it's a shame.

You won't see it because those who consider themselves on the right in the US don't actually have a platform. It would be happening without any encouragement required if there were meaningful stances, but there are not. The meaningful right is the folks in the center. They actually are on the right. The left/right window has been completely trashed by the GOP. At this point there is a very simple litmus test: if someone is in agreement with the trump administration and the GOP, or comes up with excuses for them on the regular, the aren't on the right; they aren't even in the same reality.

In many respects, there isn't even a need for some sort of left vs. right notion (at least when it comes to something like a pandemic). What is needed is for people to pool ideas and come up with the best solution we can based on the science and data we can produce. At the same time, the GOP needs to be completely cast aside. They can join discussions when they begin acknowledging reality.

Personally, I am quite pleased he is falling asleep. Less noise we have to deal with here. Let's hope it becomes a coma.

So it's looking like there is a fairly coordinated effort with launching these protests. An individual has examined domain registers and it's suspect at best. I am not surprised by this.

There's been talk that a major driving force behind these has been coming from the DeVos family. It hasn't made much sense to me as to why specifically her, but it turns out that she has a fairly big financial interest in the pandemic. In that if shutdown keeps going she stands to suffer greatly from all of this. This is a very long article but very much worth the read. It goes on to explain the economics behind private equity and the idea of scamming credit through predatory buy-off's and subsequent trashing of the assets in order to make personal profit. The problem is, that debt keeps circulating.

Is Private Equity Having Its Minsky Moment? - BIG by Matt Stoller

What is interesting to me is that all of this considered, I really can't see how sparking these insane "protests" is going to help them. All it's going to do is make the problem *worse*. So either they are stupid, or they are taking orders from someone above them. I suspect it's more webbish than the domain citations and article might suggest.

I can say that this is accurate - at least for the Michigan "protest".

Dont want to be pessimistic, but it seems that your country is slowly getting closer to Brazil, specially the Brazilian right. The idea (or rather lie)"social distancing" = "communism" is already running for weeks here. Also, these protest for coming back have a week or two here, and, likely following your country, its likely that we are going to "re-open" (since only about half - thats a guess there are no official estimations - are really in quarantine) in the end of April. A lot of people are going to die here and are dying, and the numbers here are wearing masks (I mean, the real number of death is 2-4x more than official and number of infected 5-10x more than official).

Just wanted to say, I told you the "Muh freedomz" was going to be an issue in USA, a while back lol. :fpalm:

Americans don't do the whole unity thing very easily. Time to say let god sort them out at this point.

Russia +6000 new cases today, I think it is a new record.

As I said this will hit good and bad governments and in certain way it will be a test of intelligence.

Do you even recall the shit you type?? Go back one page and find this moronic nugget of yours.

I firmly believe those who surrender liberty, for safety. Deserve neither

Yes the elderly, the immunity compromised, the people in chemo, the health care professionals, EMT's and first respondents - none of them deserve liberty or safety. Fuck off.

I don't think you're being pessimistic. Trump has had years bring his true believers to this level and he has. But the (insert something the hateful right doesn't like) = communism is an old US cold war propaganda move that the right wingers are STILL falling for.

Religious liberty was used to justify racism then. It's used now to, dunno, prove how much these people hate anyone not them?

Jesus said to love everyone. To remove the log from your own eye before you go talking about someone else's. The Bible is a historical book as much as a faith book, because there was also different times. God had rules about servants and their treatment. Some Jewish law is quite harsh, even to a non-servant. Even so, Jesus came for all, not just for the Jews.

In my mind, God frowns upon those faithful who use His name to be a discriminatory bigot. Not every Christian does it. Even if they feel the way they do, they love their neighbor. They don't picket outside like that... But certainly. There's a forefront of Christians who do it and they are the ones that talk the most obviously. I look at those people and think "gosh they wonder why people stopped turning to God...its because they decided their shit opinion was God."

But I digress.

More like sending people in mass to their graves = Communism.

The people that are dying are acceptable losses to them. Even their own, which blows that whole my tribe thing out of the sky. It's about $$, that's all that exists in a society overdosed on capitalism, which has always been the core of the all the social problems.

In reality what they are "protesting" is - Give me convince/comfort/privilege or give me death.

Do you always have to take everything I say out of context to make yourself look morally superior?

I said this on page 81 to Hexcoder almost a month ago.

Yeah, I knew some Americans would scoff at the lockdown, due to obsessions with "Muh freedoms" entitlement.

To her post of
National coronavirus updates: White House coronavirus task force provides updates as US cases surpass 80,000

US corona count surpassed China's now.

Also surpassed everyone in stupidity levels by going to the beach and saying "if I get it, I get it," so it's not that surprising.

Also you cannot even get the quote context right. The freedoms being mentioned in that quote, is things like freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Constitutional rights. In the context of the pandemic, surrendering all of your rights to the state to protect you from an invisible enemy is retarded on principle and common sense. This isn't even about denying the threat of the virus, or needing to work together to conquer it. I think the people avoiding the lockdown is stupid as well. Where in this thread did I support rebelling against the lockdown? Sounds to me you just want to intentionally misrepresent me again, for no real reason other than your contempt for anyone who doesn't think like you.
