He probably knows that.
The good thing is that there are people in Brazil with the same mindsets (even though some surveys here havent found that...) and now I am going to get vaccinated in a week or two, even before noname3788 who is in a good european country, because some people here were simply not coming by to get the vaccine when called and the government started to calling younger people sooner due to that.
You don't need to say how bad that is in the long term and how bad for society is, I know, Im trying to think positively a bit, not that I am a 100% happy with that but at least Im getting the vaccine quite soon.

I'm sorry to disappoint you... I got my second shot last week, though I had to do some... unconventional stuff to get it earlier... like not listening to the recommendations and getting the astrazeneca vaccine first, which was the first vaccine to be deployed without priorisation towards older people.

Right now, the vaccines are open to everyone over here... though there's a lot of pressure to people to get vaccinated. Politicians openly discuss plans to restrict access to various things for those who don't want a vaccine, and there's also a huge and overly emotional discussing to get children vaccinated as well... let's see how it turns out.

Where do you live?

(I also got my first shot of AstraZeneca against recommendations and am now searching for a second appointment with BioNTech as recommendations changed again (I was hoping to do this long before it became official).

Breast Cancer Patient Attacked by Violent Anti-Mask Protest Outside Clinic

A breast cancer patient says she was sprayed with bear mace, physically assaulted, and verbally abused outside a cancer treatment center in West Hollywood, Los Angeles by far-right activists who were angry over the clinic’s mandatory mask policy.

Dozens of anti-maskers holding signs with anti-vaxx and QAnon-adjacent conspiracy theories amassed on the sidewalk by the Cedars-Sinai Breast Health Services building on Thursday afternoon, and harassed patients and doctors.

It's probably too much to hope for, since we can't even manage to impose negative consequences on the guy who actually caused a rabid mob to overtake the Capital just to soothe his ego, but it'd be great if the families of people who died as a result of this disgusting pig boldly posting outright lies/propaganda sued her fucking ass off. Because there IS a truth, and it SHOULD matter, especially when it's literally a matter of life vs death.

It'd be great if such douchebag public comments were meticulously recorded and ALL the douchebags who've made them face consequences. If only to start actually discouraging bombastic douchebag lying/propaganda. And it's incredibly depressing that that feels like a pipe dream.

Based on her last line of text: crazylady doesn’t even have a firm grasp of basic primary school grammar, and we should listen to her nonsense “medical advice” on Twitter? Y O U ‘ R E

IIRC she's already been removed from her committee assignments for the "Jewish space lasers" thing, and I think at this point most of the Republican leadership in the House would like her to get hurled into the sun.

From what I understand, as long as the virus is successful enough, there isn't a strong impetus for a new mutation to catch on. Of course mutations are always happening, but if the current one is successfully transmitting at a certain rate, the others are unlikely to take hold. That's what I've been reading and hearing from epidemiologists.

Since there are still a number of unvaccinated people, the Delta variant is successfully transmitting. I support everyone getting vaccinated, but do wonder what happens after the Delta variant runs its course and people build up natural immunity and the rest are vaccinated. That would be the timeframe when a new variant would be more likely to take hold.

I do appreciate the logic of the vaccines to focus on identifying the spike proteins, which also make the virus more transmittable. It is a good logic for it to cover a variety of mutations that share the trait of being more highly contagious, so that the mutations less covered by the vaccine are also less contagious with smaller spike proteins. I still feel a worry about that phase of the pandemic after the Delta variant causes its herd immunity.

Do you find it odd that they are so willing to share this info on social media?

Hmm, I suppose not. I think they just assume this stuff is only worth caring about if it happens to them. Once they get sick, because they are the ones who count, then it's worth being concerned about. It kind of fits in with the general conservative psychology about What Matters and what doesn't, like the fact that all of a sudden they think corporations should be reined in since the God-Emperor was kicked off Twitter. Although they can never tell me who should rein them in if it isn't the government (because the founding commandment of their ideology is that the most terrifying words in the English language is "I'm from the government and I'm here to help") or god forbid, a labor movement.

GOP lawmaker who refused to wear mask reportedly 'really, really sick' with COVID-19

These stories keep on happening. By far not the only reason I am not a Republican (and I'm quite critical of many Democrats as well for preferring to work with psychos like this rather than actual progressives), but definitely a good example.
It would be reassuring if we could view the whole COVID-19 situation as a huge exercise in Darwin's Law, but it is more complicated than that, unfortunately.

This is disturbing and COVID-19 has been shown to have cognitive effects, but I'm not sure about the test design. If they had tested the same individuals before and after contracting COVID-19, then the measures would be solid, but there is something to be said for being smart enough to avoid getting infected. I do *not* want to stigmatize people who contracted it beyond their control, but there were a lot of stupid behaviors that resulted in infection and those people would have likely been included in this study because it was a lot of people.

I'd say in the majority of scenarios, people using their intelligence are more likely to survive a threat, and this would include this pandemic scenario in broad strokes.

Me either but cognitive impairment happens via all kinds of diseases and injury. Same as cardiac damage we are seeing in some COVID survivors.

Stupid, often self-inflicted behavior that's politically motivated is a whole other matter. It all goes back to the effectiveness of propaganda and the erosion of trust in any form of expertise.
