On a positive note, Trump has said they're heavily considering a second loop of checks. Democrats are pushing to make it $2,000 instead of 1,200. I think for certain people $2,000 instead of $1,200 would be great and possibly even important. I hope they really do put out a part 2, even if they do it selectively. There are so many struggling without work due to this but it is the safest option. If you are going to take their jobs, protect them financially too...

In what way ? What is needed ?

The banks, I image, will do what is in their interest no matter the country. The current measures are not working for people out of work or with an obliterated business. So your president is calling for a plan to benefit the debtors, not the banks. How refreshing.

Perhaps but the final version will probably be shorter than 12 months, what is in my opinion the biggest element that sticks out (not the idea itself). Even if some industries might actually get full 12 months. Although here banks aren't allowed to do just about everything they wish. Especially since people started merging into very large groups that are suing and challenging the banks all the time. Something like a union of people with a bank account.

Anyway, today was a bad day for many countries around the world in the terms of virus. Many have large of even record or near record gains in new cases.

I think people need to realize that if it doesn't end everywhere, it's not going to end anywhere, and we need a global effort to curb it.

Trump vows to ‘open up America’ with 3-phase plan

The clear transfer of responsibility could help limit political fallout for Trump from the coronavirus devastation — in line with what some advisers have urged in leaving major decisions to the states. But given open borders between states, Trump also risks a larger and more confusing crisis — through a potential resurgence of coronavirus across the nation — without a central authority calling the shots

This is exactly why I said you have to close traveling of people between the states or even counties in some cases. Since this is exactly how the virus got into every state the first time and now people will infect each other across the country again. US is evidently too big bowl to be taken in one piece and therefore it must be reduced to chunks in order to create the points of stability. From which you take further actions. Actually most of rural areas will be able to work well if they aren't in constant direct contact with large urban centers. This was done in my country and we basically spared the whole countryside by doing this (where healthcare protection is weaker basically by definition). This measure was made as soon as it became obvious that the people will spread the virus across the country. Therefore this measure is perhaps number one reason why we may not even get to the 100 official corona deaths by the time this is over. Free travel is death in this situation since it allows constant reemergence of the problem. Because you don't have any safe zones or guaranties if you allow free travel.

Good news. The reproduction rate in Germany has dropped below one down to currently 0.7. Social distancing measures (i. e. mandatory distance of six feet and no meetings of more than two people) will remain in place, so hopefully this positive trend will continue.

It means that on average every infected person infects 0.7 other people. That means that the pandemic is starting to fade away. It starts shrinking as soon as the reproduction rate drops below one. However, as long as there are enough non-immune people around it can increase agains if social distancing measures are loosened too much. It's a balancing act.

I presumed that it is something like this but I wanted to be sure.
Hopefully our part of the world will clear up soon, since there will be more than enough fires to put out all over the map. With any luck here will soon go into single digit of new daily cases.

Well, Trump is the pied piper of the kakistocracy so I anticipate "phase 3" to be just as bad, or worse than the other phases.

Also, social distancing apparently had the positive side effect of cutting this flu season short by two weeks compared to the usual length of the last few years. Wouldn't be bad if some of those habits and measures remained, specially during the winter months.

Yes. Agree on this for sure. I think also it has highlighted here in America even more how inadequate a few things are.

#1: sick days. Employers do not put enough effort in ensuring customer and employee safety by truly making people stay home when ill. I don't think temperature checks would be a bad idea after this. I know at work how many illnesses I caught because people just came to work no matter what. And with the way time off accrues, I even had to do it sometimes because I had to choose between not infecting someone else and not having my job... ): I strongly disliked doing it and tried to keep to myself best I could when I did...

#2: Culture issue. There are people now saying they'd rather die of coronavirus than not work or etc. My brother was acting pretty similar. I think this individualistic culture is showing some of its flaws because they'll go eh I'm living through it who cares. works. someone dies from the virus they spread. somehow no remorse for spreading it. I think it should be a shift in attitude.

#3: secondary cultural issue, the living wage. there are so many families working multiple jobs to both get by and support their children and some of them sadly don't even get to actively experience their children much because of this. We need to do more for those working at these lower places without causing some sort of mega inflation that detracts the process. This is where I absolutely have thought it before and think it now, the wealth tax in America could be very beneficial, because these large companies do not care. They're not investing it back like somewhat before, and they're just making themselves richer so when something like this happens they'll just donate a couple million bucks to look good. It isn't enough.

Btw. what is your take on this ?

Coronavirus in Germany: No end in sight for travel restrictions

I mean do you sense that your country still has the desire for summer vacations ? And what are the odds that under the circumstances the people will desire to stay closer to home. I mean it is no secret that in southern Europe summer tourism and all activity related to that is big chunk of GDP (which obviously needs saving/boost at this point).

Hmm, do you mean desire or intention? Right now it is really hard to tell. We are currently starting the very first steps of an exit strategy. So far there is not even a date for restaurants or hotels reopening in Germany. So on the one Hand you have little competition as it's hard to vacation at home when everything is closed. On the other hand even if borders were to legally open up more I don't see many people travelling to a foreign beach when their own beaches are still considered unsafe (psychologically speaking). Another factor is that there is a lot of talk of cutting school summer vacation short. So that would also influence if and how families travel. And then there is economic uncertainty. Frankly, I'd expect a severe drop in visitors to Croatian tourist destinations. For this summer season, at least.
