Probably new and up to date power grid wouldn't hurt either. If you live like this you probably don't notice this but across the country you have power grid and street lights that seem totally out of date. Or as if they will just crash in the next major storm.

My environment just for example




Power grid is simply one of foundations of economic competitiveness and you just can't fight China head on with that rotting wood. Plus you can get local manufacturing going by replacing the out of date power grid. Especially since modern materials and technologies mean less losses of energy in the system.

I was reminded today of one of the most wicked while still classy burns among politicians that I have come across.

Former chancelor Helmut Schmidt was asked by a journalist what he thought about the job performance of then current foreign secretary Guido Westerwelle. His anwer, puffing his cigarette and without batting an eye: "You can't seriously expect me to answer that question" She asked him with a half-grin "That bad?", to which he calmly replied "I have nothing to add"


A lot of it might be cultural and in the dry delivery, but I always liked that.

I know, that is why I am saying this. However there simply can't be genuine economic recovery without infrastructure. Without functional infrastructure you are at best doomed to mass imports and economic bubbles. Without this all these threads are for nothing.

It seems that the Arctic ice cap will have another major melt year (quite possibly with even a new record low in September after the melt season).



From the start the cap wasn't too big this year, outlaying ice melted quickly, many cracks are forming too early in the season, some regions are melting too early and that only boosts the melt, there is plenty of melt ponds on the ice cap .... etc. With "right" weather patterns this can be close to complete meltdown this year.

Got to say that I really do find people adopt (with serious enthusiasm) political ideas, ideologies or trends that I think I exhausted as an interest in my teens or twenties.

Its bizarre, I see it, remember what that was like, but while I kind of excuse it in myself since I was younger and all I wonder how people can get the same way now that we're all older. Seriously.

What's weird about it too is the people who become the biggest examples of this are the same people who, probably rightly, said it was tedious, boring etc. when I used to peddle it back in the day. Also its hard to tell people just transcend that already.

New York State, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Saturday that many horse racing tracks will be allowed to reopen on June 1 under a specific set of guidelines. According to the governor, horse racing tracks in New York State can reopen on June 1, but no fans will be allowed in attendance.

On top of horse racing tracks being allowed to reopen, Governor Cuomo announced that Watkins Glen International Raceway will also be allowed to reopen. NASCAR still plans on holding its annual Go Bowling at The Glen event August 14-16. Like horse racing tracks, fans will not be permitted at The Glen at this time. Governor Cuomo said he is looking to open as many economic activities as possible, while still preventing crowds and large gatherings. The governor says large gatherings pose the biggest threat to COVID-19 spreading.
