Reminds me of folk music but with a darker tone:
There's that folk feeling of telling a story.
I love that one. "The Lake it is said, never gives up her dead, when the winds of November start blowing."

It's a different lake, but I think of that whenever November approaches. Even so, there are shipwrecks. That one only happened within a few years of that song, if you can believe it.

I believe Hares on a Mountain is an old Irish song. I like what they do with it. It sounds like something a fae might sing.

My great grandfather was part of the diaspora during the famine. So I've always had a fondness for irish folk music.

My great-grandmother left Ireland around a century ago IIRC. My grandmother was born here and spent part of her early life in an orphanage, because there simply wasn't enough money for my great-grandmother to take care of her. I highly suspect my grandmother was born out of wedlock, although I don't know more than that. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to know her, or my maternal grandfather.

I am sure if this is the Irish side or not, but my Mom's great aunt committed suicide by jumping off a skyscraper (what counted as one for the time, anyway) downtown.

I love the Orange and the Green.

This song needs a sequel called Middle-Age Dirtbag.

Had a hard time finding an uncensored version, by the way. Most annoying.

One more for the day, and that's it, I promise.

As a kid I remember watching Batman Returns, and when it gets to Max Schreck's Costume Ball, there's this great exchange with Bruce and Selina. They are the only ones not wearing a costume, by the way. The music playing in the background for part of this scene, I used to think it was Can't Touch This, but in fact, it was this:

Which is much more relevant, if you think about it.

The scene:

The Dead South, Sons of Perdition, and Blues Seraceno are some of my favorites, Those Poor Bastards have a few songs I know of from Old Gods of Appalachia, but they're heavy into depresssion and bleak songs so I gotta keep my distance. Justin Cross is good too.
I like The Bible or the Gun, I Cannot Escape the Darkness, and Don't Drink the Water. Great stuff.

As a kid, this was my favorite song in the musical. I was confused and slightly upset that Gavroche didn't have a larger role in the story.

I've since seen this on the stage at least twice now, lol. It's clear now why we don't have Gavroche, despite Gavroche being awesome.

I can't listen to Nirvana anymore after this news about Dave Grohl. A rockstar, having a child out of wedlock? I've never heard of such a thing before. Disgraceful.

At least I can still listen to the Beatles, knowing that John Lennon was a man who treated his wives and children admirably.

When I was younger, I liked Nevermind better. Now I think I prefer In Utero. This might be the biggest reason why:

I see this song differently, too, now.
