Edit: To clarify, this thread and poll is about whether the nurse in this video is lying and why or why not. It isn't about whether the vaccine is harmful, or anything related to that. Something affecting one person is not very strong anecdotal evidence, much less scientific evidence. Additionally, if she is lying, it doesn't necessarily follow that the vaccine safety or effectiveness is in jeopardy. These are all interesting topics for discussion, but they are not the main focus of this thread.

Tiffany Dover, a nurse manager, was one of the first to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Shortly afterwards, she reported feeling dizzy and briefly lost consciousness. (She uses the medical term of "syncopal episode" in the video.)

Based on the evidence in the video, do you think she is lying about why she passed out? (Her reason is that she has an overactive vagal response to pain.)

Especially given that thousands of health care workers have had their first doses and are likely going to have their second dose in the next week (18 days between doses for Pfizer, 28 days for Moderna). The right wing propaganda outlets would be jumping all over anything they could find to discredit it and anyone taking it or connected to developing the vaccines - especially if a nurse or doctor died from reaction to one of the vaccines. They don't actually seem to care about doctors and nurses dying of Covid though.

People experience vasovagal syncope from getting injections or blood drawn fairly often. It’s why some places will make you remain seated for at least 5 minutes after you get the flu shot. I don’t think this is anything to be worried about regarding the vaccine itself, as far as it triggering syncopal events in people, at least. It’s not that abnormal.

Didnt happen to my boss, she had the vaccine on monday past, didnt happen to a former member of this forum, who's a nurse, and had the vaccine earlier in the week, I'll tell you if it happens to me next monday, I highly doubt it.

I'm not surprised that there's people hoping to mess with the spread of vaccination, its the only way they can keep the virus going and ensure that their dreams of population cull arent cut short.

Idk. Its hard to say. People faint for many reasons. Its not incredibly uncommon. Ive fainted for reasons from getting up too quickly. To medication. To pain. To literally swallowing wrong.

Its a hard thing to call out any reason for fainting as fake. Its almost as bad imo as calling someones “sneezing” reason as fake.

I plan to answer the question at face value and post about the nonverbals I see which indicate truth or deception, and whether, as a person who previously worked with patients in various states of consciousness due to various causes on a neurology ward, her stated reason for passing out seems valid to me. I thought it would also make for an interesting and enlightening conversation on evaluating current events and what we see in media with critical thinking.

That's true, it would be hard to fake. Some speculate that maybe the vaccine caused the fainting, in which case fainting would still be an actual and "authentic" physiological response.
