I always like to point out when comments are made by disney, like: "people think we upset the cannon, bla bla, we dont have to take that criticism seriously because its toxic." (not an exact quote, but you know what I mean.) Always strikes me as a bit obtuse when they've got the existing for decades cannon of star wars of the old EU wrapped up in carpet in the back they feed into the ai wood chipper to mine plot points without having to pay royalties.
Public Relations by Gaslight.
Don't fall for it kids. They're a major production company who gave a bunch of bad products, they knew were bad products, so they're trying to blame the fans so that they can keep deiliver bad products, they dont believe in and you'll shut up and take it. Or else.

I don't like the concept of Gray Jedi, unless we're just using it to mean Jedi who don't follow the council like Qui-Gon Jinn. I'd definitely be one of those.

Jolee Bindo.
Oh. I read that on Wookiepedia. It's relatable. I think the dark side is like the One Ring, though. Even if you try to use it for good, eventually it will corrupt you. If you can use the dark side and still be good, why it is called the dark side?

But with specific Force powers, I'm open to wiggle room on that. I'm not inclined to take video game mechanic too literally. Nowhere is it stated in the films that Force Choke is a dark side ability. Jedi prefer to remove a limb to prevent an opponent from being a threat rather than kill them. What we see Luke do in ROTJ is less harmful and injurious than that.

On the other hand, it's implied in Episode II that Force Lightning is a dark side ability. Maybe you want to ignore the prequels entirely but they don't bother me as much as the Abrams films do.

But what if you used Force Lightning to jump-start somebody's air speeder? What's wrong with that? For these reasons, I can get on board with the idea that it's not about the powers, it's how you use them.

Luke Skywalker eventually discovers what the ancient Jedi knew before the Red Alien Sith Empire invaded...There is no dark side. There is no light side. There is only the Force. Kept the New Jedi Order from being wiped out by the Vong.

Then didn't his nephew who was all into that become Darth Cadeus and unleash havoc on the galaxy? Darth Cadeus klled Luke's wife, too.

If you read this you're gonna see where they tried to rip it off for the sequel trilogy in such a way no one could demand royalties. You're also gonna see why that strategy didnt and never really will work like they hope.

As almost always the books are better.

Yeah, I read the book where Jacen fell to the dark side. It was pretty great, but of course it would be because Aaron Allston wrote it. RIP Aaron. IMO, he was the best EU writer, not Zahn.

I didn't get to the one where Jacen Solo killed Mara Jade, though.

Lowbacca?

Was there an entire family?
Highbacca?
Midbacca?
Spitbacca?
Chompbacca?
Slurpbacca?

I never read the now-"Legacy" stuff... aside from reading the four novelization books of STTOS, I avoided Star Wars and Star Trek franchise book series for whatever reason. (Well, I do own an original paperback copy of Splinter of the Mind's Eye I bought as a kid from my school book orders.)

Sure, I can see where they tried to rip it off for the sequels, but I can't imagine anything so terrible. So they delegitimized all of this as Legacy rather than canon, then proceeded to try to mirror some of the same story plotlines, while managing to do such a terrible and crappy job it almost killed Star Wars -- if the Mandalorian hadn't been around to anchor it. I will never understand corporate "creativity" but I suppose that is an oxymoron.

I read the first book in the High Republic series (Light of the Jedi) some years ago. I really liked that, too. Thinking about this book, it seems to me you can write a compelling story about the Jedi Order without having them actually be assholes (to put it mildly) because it would be a "good twist". That book did what The Acolyte was too lazy to do.
