"In the old days, if you went into a show with a video camera to record it, you’d be lucky to leave with your camera. Now everybody brings their smart phones and records everything. I’d like people to come to the shows and enjoy them like they did in the old days."

you ever just love a song so much that you keep listening to it almost non-stop for 2 days or longer? I guess that's how "hits" happen, except I get obsessed with obscure or old shit

Yes, many times. Some songs just fit perfectly to encapsulate specific moments in your life, yet once you're outside of that they never really feel quite the same again, although you retain a sense of appreciation for them.

John Meyer's debut album "Room for Squares" released 20 years ago.

... you're welcome.

It's definitely how my Spotify annual "top twenty" list get auto-populated.

I'm pretty sure "Running in the Night" by FM-84 is gonna peak on my 2021 list at this rate, sigh. Like, I put it on autoplay and fell asleep.

I mentioned in my blog the weirdness of "Missing You" by John Waite from 1984, which is like the total INVERSE of that experience.

I never much liked the song when it was actually released and it kind of faded from public interest... but would keep popping up on 80's stations over the years and somehow became distinctively attached to my memories of being 16. Don't ask me WTF that is about.

Tom Macdonald makes music for two types of people (some fit into both categories):

Older white people who never really liked rap because they think it lacks any social messages. wOw fInAlLy a RaPpEr tAlKiNg aBoUt mOrE tHaN hOeS aNd dRiVeByS

People who were offended by the show Dear White People but never watched it.

I'm an asshole, I never really decided to listen to Bjork until today and I'm way too old to have waited this long.

I already blew through her first few albums. Hell, I might as well watch "Dancer in the Dark" finally too.

Do you do the obsessive thing and go through an entire singer’s or band’s discography when you discover them?

I think it’s kind of fun. I don’t think anyone’s ever too old or late to discover an older act. There’s a lot of stuff I listen to that I missed out on when it came out, or that I just didn’t originally give a chance. Plus you get the benefit of being able to listen to their entire catalog at once.

Yes, if I hear something I like, I go through their entire catalog looking for more .

I do this with film and books too.

It's a long day living in Reseda
There's a freeway running through the yard

Fact check: there's no actual freeway in Reseda. The nearest one (the 101) is roughly a mile away in Tarzana. :sherlock:

Roxy Music’s Country Life has one of the sexiest album covers of all time.
I'm sure the impact was greater back in the day with 12" vinyl.

Indeed. I have the CD but it’s just not the same. I’d love to own the LP, just to be able to display it in a 12 inch frame

Definitely not their best album but this song is one of the highlights.

Definitely relate to these lyrics.

Let's Figure Out What Kind Of Chrysler They're Talking About In The B-52s Song 'Love Shack' - Jalopnik.com

By the way, my wife once suggested that “Love Shack” would make a better national anthem for America than the clunky old “Star Spangled Banner,” and the more I think about that, the better I like it. Especially the idea of hearing an instrumental version played at the Olympics.

Back to the Chrysler. In the song, the car is referenced several times, mostly noting the vehicle’s colossal size and prodigious seating capacity:

Vampire Weekend/Rostam are so good.

To me this song sums up 2008 so well, and I can't help but think that was what it was about.

Vampire Weekend - The Kids Don't Stand A Chance (Album) - YouTube

I mean, this song is about 2016 and seems to suggest a deeper awareness of the political situation (by which I mean one similar to mine, of course) as well.
Vampire Weekend - Bambina (Official Audio) - YouTube

It doesn't hurt at all that they are lovely melodies with an interesting blend of influences.
