Yes, many times. Some songs just fit perfectly to encapsulate specific moments in your life, yet once you're outside of that they never really feel quite the same again, although you retain a sense of appreciation for them.

It's definitely how my Spotify annual "top twenty" list get auto-populated.

I'm pretty sure "Running in the Night" by FM-84 is gonna peak on my 2021 list at this rate, sigh. Like, I put it on autoplay and fell asleep.

...Some songs just fit perfectly to encapsulate specific moments in your life, yet once you're outside of that they never really feel quite the same again, although you retain a sense of appreciation for them.

I mentioned in my blog the weirdness of "Missing You" by John Waite from 1984, which is like the total INVERSE of that experience.

I never much liked the song when it was actually released and it kind of faded from public interest... but would keep popping up on 80's stations over the years and somehow became distinctively attached to my memories of being 16. Don't ask me WTF that is about.

I already blew through her first few albums. Hell, I might as well watch "Dancer in the Dark" finally too.

Do you do the obsessive thing and go through an entire singer’s or band’s discography when you discover them?

I think it’s kind of fun. I don’t think anyone’s ever too old or late to discover an older act. There’s a lot of stuff I listen to that I missed out on when it came out, or that I just didn’t originally give a chance. Plus you get the benefit of being able to listen to their entire catalog at once.

Yes, if I hear something I like, I go through their entire catalog looking for more .

To me this song sums up 2008 so well, and I can't help but think that was what it was about.
