I can place unnecessary importance on various items and trinkets from the OT, if you like. What about Yoda's cane? What if it was the only thing that could defeat Palpatine once and for all? Or Figrin Dan's jizz flute.... perhaps it is like the Ocarina of time and opens the way to Palpatine's secret hideout? What about the comlink 3P0 used on the Death Star? We've got to bring that one back... we can have him say "Shut them all down" again.

Oh, and what happened to Luke's snowspeeder? Sure it was crushed by an At-At but we have to bring that back, too!

I'm watching the Rebels cartoon and James Adomian is basically doing "What if Jesse Ventura was an Imperial Officer?" Nothing abut conspiracies, and he definitely doesn't transmit anything from an undisclosed location. The episode itself is a little goofy, consisting of droid hijinks, so I suppose that's why they got him.

You know, if he doesn't get killed off, I'd support his character returning in The Mandalorian or some other show. If you have Horatio Sanz, Amy Sedaris (who is as unrecognizable as Horatio Sanz) and Bill Burr, why not James Adomian.

Or perhaps he could play a rebel general that sounds like Bernie Sanders.... (Disney would probably not allow that, but the idea tickles my fancy).

Also, I have no sympathy for GIna Carano. It's a shame because I liked the character, but oh well. Nobody was holding a gun to her head and forcing her to tweet that stuff, and she should have known that she works for a company that cares a lot about its image. If they have reason to worry that they'll lose subscribers because of her tweets, obviously they'd send her packing. Also the bullshit persecution complex these people have is really annoying. If you make a point of showing how little you respect everyone else, it's not "persecution" when people stop respecting you.

I don’t care what Gina Carano did. I’d rather celebrities keep their mouth shut about politics but whatever

I don't agree with any of the things she said but I feel we're headed towards a slippery slope of censorship.

I think in a world of clickbait activism it's probably unavoidable. People need to feel they're doing something important without putting anything on the line and a minimum of effort. I can't say I think it's a great tactic for achieving change, but it's not really about that anyway. People are going to do that anyway, and aren't going to listen to me telling them why it's not a great idea.

Regardless, the whining about persecution is really annoying. It didn't help that she used a Holocaust metaphor that I'm really tired of people lazily brining up to convince me how serious something is (also it seems like I'm the only one not allowed to do that).

There’s been an unfortunate backlash against trans people in the mma community.

What scares me is the semantics of it: Who or what defines the bounds of what is and isn't acceptable content to put forth? Who guides the direction of this status quo?

My political opinions have been documented, but I'm not a fan of this authoritarian social liberalism in which anything outside of pure adherence to the ideology is met with being cancelled and ostracized. I think each situation for that kind of action needs to stand on its own. Trump's deplatforming? Yeah I think that made sense and was overall a net positive. Random celebrities making ignorant comments on the internet? Eh, whatever. I think on an individual level if people decided en masse to move away from her social media platforms, that's completely their choice and OK by me, but the development of this machine like movement in which anything outside of the arbitrarily defined bounds is set to face its wrath, is what scares me.

Hmm, it's kind of been a thing for years, though, at this point. It's not great but it's why I don't even talk about certain topics , anymore. I'm not always up to date with what the right talking points are, and that alone can get you in trouble. It's impossible to always know if somebody isn't forming a ban brigade in secret, so best not to say anything that might make them want to form a ban brigade. Of course this has the effect of meaning that people don't even bring attention to these issues are discuss them, which is one reason why it's a counterproductive tactic.

I think this stuff is going to spike sharply upwards if we get a divided government after 2022. There was a major uptick in 2014 (and was really when this started to germinate). I'm not entirely sure why there seems to be a relation between this and divided government, but I suspect it has something to do with people who Care About The Issues needing to have the energy towards something even when there's no legislation in the works.

You know the thing about the scene that inspired this though is that it's actually a call back to Obi-Wan's duel with Maul in Episode I. Remember when Maul had the high ground? He warned Anakin not to try it because he pulled the exact same move against Maul and knew to defend against it.

I guess the weird part is that it's just on a hilltop, and it's not like Anakin is dangling from a ledge, but just on a lava raft thing that's pretty close to the shore. But as much as I love the memes that resulted from it, I just feel like people haven't keyed into that aspect of it; I don't think that I've seen anyone bring that up.

Oh, it's also a call forward to Return of the Jedi. There's a moment when Luke has the high ground and Vader does not take it very well. It's like poetry, it rhymes.

Aside from my personal dislike towards her, Carano is kind of a has-been anyway. She can't act worth shit, and the stuff she's doing in Mandalorian is pretty tame compared to what she had been able to do in the past, like in Haywire and her fighting days. (I'm not sure if she's still capable of more and they just don't want her to show up the Mandalorian, or if her being out of shape and older is part of her lame part.)

Frankly, they can find a new actress and/or a new character that can play that kind of role better. All the stupid shit coming out of her mouth only provided more of an impetus to replace her with better talent.

I think there was also some criticism of Rosario Dawson in a similar vein, but they didn't can her -- because she was really good at the part, I presume. She did it well, and she was weirdly more impressive (or whoever did her stunts) than Gina Carano.

at least a good 2 thirds of this stuff is either CGI or stunt doubles, so it really doesn't matter. It's basically a glorified anime series.

Then they should just have personable actors. Gina is boring, she's one note.
