I think it's hilarious that Trump simply assumes a) no one on the left is armed and b) people don't simply laugh at him. Neither one of these is true.

I do think its strange that left wingers being opposed to fire arms ownership is an automatic assumption, for many I'm sure its true, probably liberals and democrats but I would be very surprised if socialists or others feel that way, especially since shortages of firearms to their support has probably resulted in their defeat every single time its happened in history.

Any time a left wing monopoly on arms has happened its resulted in suppression of some left wing element first and foremost too, whether the new regime is nominally or declared left win or not, like when Trotsky put down the SRs and Machanoviks in the Russian revolution following the provisional government providing them with arms to defend against the "white"/conservative forces.

The only revolution, at least in the modern era, that I can recall in which the government distributed fire arms TO the populace at large was the Sandinista one, the populace armed or not got tired enough of the Contra war to elect a government acceptable to the Contras.

In Switzerland I think the entire adult population is required to be armed anyway and its not a left or right wing issue at all but defence policy.

I'd actually be interested in finding out how gun cultures look depending on the political scene, like I wonder if there's the same sort of "fetishism" or "love my gun better than you" sort of thing depending on the scene and its priorities.

Jesse Ventura too. Justin Amash is pretty unknown outside of the people of his district and people paying attention to politics (he's my representative). I don't think he could beat Trump but I do think he could take votes from Trump, if he approaches this in the right way. Like focusing on policy questions that sharply divide the parties instead of Trump. No anti-Trump ads, issue based ads would work better.

Let's just hope no one starts talking about his family business that buys Chinese tools and re-brands them, instead of producing tools made in the US by American workers. I'm sure no one will.

Hmm. Well going by past stuff, he ran on the platform of the Independence Party of Minnesota as governor and claimed to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal, which isn't a viable ideology. It's also a logical fallacy - every social issue contains fiscal elements.

So basically this view makes him a pretty garden variety Republican and the Independence Party of Minnesota is as well. He's now claiming to run on the Green Party platform so I wonder - has he read it? The Four Pillars and the 10 Key Values? In 2016, the Green Party passed a motion in favor of rejecting both capitalism and state socialism, and instead supporting "alternative economic system based on ecology and decentralization of power" If so, that socially liberal fiscally conservative bullshit needs to never come out of his mouth again.

He also claimed to be an Independent last year so. I have yet to find a single "independent" other than Bernie, that wasn't a raging right winger if you scratch the surface a bit. So my political take on him is pretty meh, very typical boomer-y conservative, very susceptible to conspiracy theories.

I have no issue with him as a person, he's super entertaining and interesting.

I have "traveled" around US through google maps a fair amount out of curiosity. However in many places there are buildings that don't have glass windows but instead the window hole is covered with some kind of cheap wooden plate. Why is that ? (most of those buildings look like they are generally abandoned)

Because there is no glass in the window. Either it was broken by someone or natural disaster or someone simply can't afford to fix a broken window. There are serious third world conditions all over this country.

I remember wondering as I drove by miles of this whether they were totally abandoned or whether people still lived in them. I suspect the latter but it looked like a huge borough that just became abandoned. It was extremely alarming. I know there are swathes of Chicago like this too, and probably in every major city. Well, poor rural areas too I guess, though usually those become more like trailer park lots with lots of junk and broken down vehicles, which you commonly see in the hill country of the southeast. Well, I suppose in all rural areas.
