The election meddling the CIA did during the Cold War, especially in Latin America, makes the election meddling Russia did in 2016 look like cheating at Candyland.

I fucking hate these things. I want them gone. Theyre so not good for anyone or anything. :dont:

I do too and I live in a rural area with plenty of these things. I went through a training session with a farming couple that works with the Sierra Club and they showed how you or I or anyone can test water and soil where they live. All the water in this country is contaminated - rivers, streams, lakes - it's just a matter of how bad. And this administration is going to make it worse and enforce the widespread belief many farmers already have - not my problem. So much not my problem that some of these farmers will open multiple shell "farms". So when one is fined or shut down, they have three more LLC's to continue. It's horrifying.

I think Presidents should be limited to one 6 year term. Senators should be limited to no more than 3 consecutive 6 year terms. Representatives to nine consecutive two year terms

I'm good with that. But only if/when the co-equal branches of government are restored. They're not currently and Trump is attempting to consolidate it to the executive branch.

You'd think these moderate business guys obsessed with the almighty dollar would realize candidates like Sanders and Yang would have been more likely to implement policy that would increase the velocity of money. Trickle up economics, only more a torrent than a trickle.

Biden and trump will lead to consolidation of wealth in a few hands, and in the short term, sure that's great for the people already at the top of the heap. But they'll be sitting on top of a house of cards.

I was watching something the other day about Davos.

Tariffs - American citizens, importers and consumers are paying it. WSJ actually had a piece asking how many studies on this do you need to believe it?
Central Banks - Maxed out. Probably not going to be able to save anyone in the next economic recession.
Peak oil - Expected 2035. People will lose jobs and so on. Car production will decline. Too big to fail will fail.
Climate Change - We are passing way points left and right. Natural disasters with an crumbling infrastructure and we all know what's coming...
Aging population - There will soon be more old people than young people. People are not having children for reasons from - I have an $8000 deductible that needs to be paid in full before delivery to I will lose my job if I take this much time off. Less people working to support the safety nets for those that are elderly. Less people to sustain capitalism.
Income Inequality - 62 people will have the same amount of wealth as the bottom 3.6 billion.

All of these things will lead to the end of capitalism. For once CEO's are talking about stakeholders - customers and employees - not shareholders. This opens the door for some kind of mixed economic system, socialism or a variant. If these companies wish to remain in existence, this is what they will do. This leads to the end of globalization although not in the way most Trump fans believe. Decline in free trade and countries being more protectionist. Eventually they will have to choose - a state capitalist system or an open society system with free markets. The US can choose between being like China or the more mixed economies of Northern Europe. They predict three major alliances emerge from this. China and it's alliances, the US and it's alliances (Mexico and Canada) and the European Union.

The movie Children of Men is looking more and more like a documentary about the real world every year.

Anyway, I think the best chance to actually save capitalism would have been to elect a social democrat like Sanders or Yang. Biden or Trump will speed everything you listed above.

There is noting to really predict here. US, China and EU already today have 2/3 of global GDP, and in relatively similar ratios between each other. Those 3 are already dominating pretty much all global trends.

But in all this there is one thing that is indeed fairly new at the table, at least when it comes to practice. Which is that USA and EU will have their own spheres of influences. What is probably the greatest global change since the cold war and perhaps even until ww2. (especially if we don't count in China into the picture).

However if Trump wins this world will basically become unavoidable. It was nice while friendship lasted but it is time to move on. In a way this is exactly why you have so many Europeans in the posts and various comment sections. Since this is defining course on both sides of Northern Atlantic.

Strange, I never would have guested.

However if good relations with USA completely snap you will have to do much more than rooting (the same goes for me and any other EU citizen). Especially since in multi-polar world of constant crisis we will need to become generally self reliant and more politically impactful. However with all those trillions in economy and almost half a billion people this is doable. In a way it is funny how in later decades every time when there is a republican in the office the EU is legally advancing, due to the uncomfort with that circle of people.

You are preaching to the choir. I have been for a common foreign and defense policy, heck, even for a form of United States of Europe, since the 1990s. Liberal, secular, multicultural, multiethnic and welcoming but firmly rooted in its humanistic values, with a mixed economy and reliable welfare state, selfsufficient in its energy supply, intelligence work and military defense, the center of publically supported cutting edge science and research, economic powerhouse of the global green new deal and supplying the world with renewable and sustainable technology...

... Oh well, a girl can dream. Right?
