A recent survey of 1,200 queer men in the United States found that 45 percent planned on voting for Republican President Donald Trump. Comparatively, 51 percent said they would vote for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

I assume this is a drastic change, but the article did not provide the historical context. How much support did Trump get in 2016 among gay men? It's Newsweek, so journalism standards are low, but you'd think that this is the first question every reader would ask.

In 2016, there was already a lot of support from the LGBT community. As LGBT does not equal always leftist. There was the instance where Trump also called out middle eastern countries for killing gays, and said that a lot islamic countries and Africa is anti-LGBT. Which is another reason to increase immigration control to protect LGBT here in USA. He also held up the LGBT flag at a ralley.

I was watching the "Challenger: Final Flight" limited series on Netflix last night, regarding the space shuttle tragedy in 1986.

They were showing a lot of footage, and there was a snippet after the accident of Vice-President Bush being asked questions as he had landed in Florida (he was walking by the camera) about the event. He didn't really have any information yet to offer and didn't quite know what to say.

But what struck me was that he admitted he didn't know anything yet. And he didn't point fingers.

And he also sounded like he cared about the crew and their families. He actually sounded (and I perceived him as) both worried for them and compassionate over their loss and the grief of the country.

This was over thirty years ago but there was a time when regardless of party, people actually drew some lines of civility, and at least were honest about some things (although obviously there are issues in each administration), and people actually did feel bad for others regardless of affiliation, on a very human level, as imperfect as things might have been.

It just seems to be a far cry from today, where almost everything coming out is a distortion or lie needlessly, only polling seems to matter to the administration, and there is no actual compassion but simply the exploitation of tragedy to serve a political goal. (Yes, this stuff had happened in the past, but not as intensely and consistently.) What the hell happened?

I'm guessing Trump's SCOTUS nominee will get smeared every bit as bad as Kavanaugh, so he should probably nominate someone who's mentally tough and can survive the nomination/confirmation process.

It just seems to be a far cry from today, where almost everything coming out is a distortion or lie needlessly, only polling seems to matter to the administration, and there is no actual compassion but simply the exploitation of tragedy to serve a political goal. (Yes, this stuff had happened in the past, but not as intensely and consistently.) What the hell happened?

All in the name of "national security" and "law and order".

I think every American citizen should be required to look up the word 'anarchism', thoroughly memorize all definitions, and to then read about and actually understand the philosophy before they use the word and its derivatives. Especially those citizens serving in elected and appointed office who continue to use the word incorrectly.

If you don't know what it means, please stop using it as a synonym for chaos and disorder. Go back to school, or read a book from your local library.

It's not an obscure concept and there's been plenty written on it.
