True, especially since that is kinda the Biden's last chance to present his accomplishments before the Summer break. However that is important since those have to be floating around during the Summer. Because that creates visibly better starting position for September, the moment when top of the campaign starts.

I mean the polling in general suggests that not enough people are aware of his accomplishments. Especially since keeping the country floating in current era is something that takes plenty of effort. But it can easily be taken for granted.

Yeah, the religious people evidently shouldn't be too much of Trump fans. The dude is braking 10 commandments on daily basis.
Yeah he really checks a lot of the boxes of a an antichrist figure too, right down to the fooling a good chunk of people who should damn well know better, but so many never read the damn manual.

In the case that US has universal healthcare like normal developed countries that would perhaps be someone different. However if you don't have such mechanism the outcomes are surely much more messy. Where I live when you get into giving birth you pick up the phone and Ambulance picks you up and drives you to the local hospital. Where you give birth in controlled environment. While the cost goes on the collective account for healthcare. However in US this is for some reason rocket science.

The key problem is that fair chunk of people wants drama or even blood at this point. Therefore they are sticking to the guy since he is providing them 24/7 show with that kind of vibe. However that "demand" of the masses is actually the key problem in all of this.

Sure does feel like the after effects of an intelligence operation. If I didn't know better, that's what I might think.

I've been hearing some things about the enforcement of the antitrust laws. Doesn't the use of the phase "enforcement" imply that acting in this fashion would lie fully within the purview of the executive branch (meaning that the legislative branch has no authority to stop it)? When did enforcement of the antitrust laws last occur, and with what?

I'm debating (ha) whether or not to watch the debate this week. It will depress me terribly, no doubt. It's less the candidates. I think I can handle evil quirky old man vs. benign quirky old man. It's the crowd's reaction to them I dread. I can imagine now the reactions that fit better with a trashy daytime talk show or a Miller-Boyett sitcom, and being reminded that this is what a cross-section of the electorate is like.

But he is giving them the theocracy they want. God can use even the tools of the Devil to do his work, they will claim.

From what I understand there will be no crowd in there with the two of them. Plus the format should be pretty much a controlled environment. Therefore if someone misbehaves they will cut of their microphone. However what will be awkward will be watching two 80 year olds debating without any help or memos.

Truth to be told it doesn't even have to be the intelligence. After all It looks much better when the media are phrasing it that way. However typical foreign troll is probably just some average Joe that lives in global south and doesn't like US for a whole bunch of reasons. If we consider the volume of these comments that also suggests that the average Joe has something to do with all of this. The scope seems to be too large to be made by just a few professionals.

What in general makes the global internet kinda the bad idea. Autocratic society can troll a democracy with visible consequences. While democracy can't really troll back since the apps are banned/controlled, or there are no elections that you can actually tilt. While trolling to the point that you cause an open revolution is unlikely. I mean if that happens that would probably happen even without the trolling.

Therefore the internet as it is now is surely a bad idea if you want democracy and honest debates about topics. For that reason cutting some of the wires really doesn't seem to be that bad idea. After all when a family debates details the neighbors shouldn't really be active participants. Especially the ones that are 5 blocks down the street.

I have little to add to the article by Hariri. The counter-arguments are all adressed in it.

On an unrelated note: Today I learned that the reason European Ebay sellers call their Cuban stamps "Caribbean" on EBay Germany is because EBay is forcing its European subsidiaries to break EU law* and implement the Helms-Burton embargo on Cuban goods. So if a Frenchman is selling old Cuban stamps to a stamp collector in Sweden on EBay France that is perfectly legal according to European law but will nonetheless violate Ebay regulations. That's why they use "Caribbean" instead of "Cuba" in the product description.

*The EU not only doesn't follow the Helms-Burton embargo on Cuba, but passed a resolution in 1996 that actually makes it illegal to implement the embargo. But Ebay USA has ordered its subsidiaries to violate local law and so far they have simply been allowed to have their way.
Other names for the country that shall not be named that I've since seen on eBay: "stamps from the Spanish West-Indies" and even "stamps from an island"

I have also seen stamps from Persia and Iran offered as "Middle Eastern":whistling:

From 538.

Maryland: Biden +26

It seems that ex Republican Governor running for senate wouldn't really have the effect on the deep blue state.

If I had to place bets I would say Vance.
Kisses the ring, he is from the rust belt that is absolutely crucial region, fairly young, kinda electable in 2028.

The second choice: Stefanik (for kinda similar reasons, plus she may help with female vote).

Plus here are the two scenarios about which the Dems have to be VERY careful about. Since both are fairly realistic and doable from the Trump's side. Especially since new map is opening certain paths that weren't possible last time. Plus he will almost surely take back Georgia in the current environment, what would make his electoral math much easier.

I'm probably going to watch this debate, now that I know I don't have to deal with a card. My own perception of how a debate went is usually the opposite to how everybody else interprets it, though. I'm remembering some debate where Mary Cheney came up, for instance. I thought that was a solid point, but instead it become some whole thing about how it was inappropriate and violating norms (or something like that) to mention the other candidate's daughter.
