Ohio voters approve ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana

Ohio votes in favor of amending the state constitution to enshrine abortion rights

Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear reelected to second term in Kentucky, overcoming state’s GOP dominance

Virginia Democrats appear on track to keep majority in state senate

But yes, mainstream media, tell me again how these results once again spell disaster for the Democratic party and Joe Biden. Quick! Somebody share a poll of Trump beating Biden, polling people who still willingly answer land-line telephones and use AOL disks as their primary point of access to the internet
PA Dems won their Supreme Court, swept the controversial school board races and elected a woman to be the mayor of Philly. Barely a peep. VA, holy shit. Youngkin has said over and over he will do all he can to ban abortions. Like that is the winning strategy. No matter how many times they get annihilated by voters saying otherwise. But the best vote Yes on Prop 2 ad in Ohio was this one.

And here is the obvious proof of what I just said.

State wide races in Kentucky when it comes to actual votes.

2020

R: Trump 1 326 000
D: Biden 772 000

2023

D: Bashear 693 000
R: Cameron 627 000

What very clearly indicates that MAGA didn't show up for the most part. The number of Republicans is about a half of what it used to be. But these people didn't go anywhere, they simply stayed home (probably because Cameron is black) . Therefore someomes you just have to watch at the actual number of votes to get the full picture. What genuinly opens the question if yesterday was really the representative example for 2024. Therefore I advise causion.
But he's already the KY attorney general although I agree caution is good advice.

Gotta love those hopeless fear mongering early polls. Its almost like they're unreliable this early out.

I know, but my point was simply that there is something fishy here.
From what I understand Trump actually endorsed the guy for this race. So it is possible that the voters of establishment didn't show up. What would be good because in that case Trump has no path what so ever in 2024 (if this happens again). Trump won the Kentucky by 25.9 points in 2020 and thus Bashear should have lost just like that. But something happened here and is unclear what it is.

Polling has been unreliable since 2016, mostly because pollsters use antiquated methods of gathering polling data which mainly caters to an older, more conservative portion of the electorate. That, plus, like I've said a million times, the mainstream media is driven by engagement, and therefore puts forth a narrative that these elections are much closer than they really are, because who cares about an election that's projected to be a blowout.

WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Tuesday grasped for a way to avert a government shutdown amid deep divides in their ranks over federal spending, debating how to strike a compromise with the Democratic-led Senate and President Joe Biden just 10 days away from the funding deadline.

Yawn. Here we go again.

I don't disagree with either of those two points, and it's infuriating how the media seems bent on portraying information in ways to make this election seem more dramatic rather than just being straightforward.

It's still not an easy thing to sit around, though, when you're part of the demographics likely to be sh*t upon, and you went through all the naysaying in 2016 and then had four years of anxious hell wondering if you'd get out the other side.

For sure. Its like they don't trust people to tune in if they arent fearing for their lives. I maintain that theres not enough news in the whole world to justify even one 24 hour news network let alone 10

This is why you have to drastically shorten your campaigning timetables as a country. Since the format you are having is basically insane for the modern times. To me formal campaigns last about 2 months and that is it. While you are doing presidential campaigns that are over a year in their full length, what is simply insane in the era of mass 24/7 media. Back in a day you had to travel huge country by a train or horse and this format made sense. However today this is simply counter-productive in all ways possible. The point gets lost, social tensions get too high, all of this opens the door to plenty of flip-flopping over time, people get depressed or forget presented arguments .... and it isn't that you have some kind of multiparty system where you have to constantly introduce new parties to the people. In other words the media are just trying to milk what was given to them.

it's more like 24 hour noise. It makes it hard to actually think and just confuses the issues and/or provides false relevance to what is being shouted.

I was at a chinese buffet when the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral started. Bewteen 2 24 hour news networks I listened to the suspected cause go from it was probably accidental due to chemical soaked rags catching fire and spreading, to possibly rebelious teenagers, to immigrants, to terrorists, to literally the beginning of a biblical apocalypse. it was like they were trying to reach as many different people where they live with their fears. They pretty much handle any story that way these days.

Yeah, It's "all the information no one needs to know." They are more concerned with market share and getting people to watch, not necessarily about being useful. It's no wonder people are exhausted, there's no let-up and much of the info is in flux.

The Ford plant near me dumped benzene in the sewer system a couple years ago. I was grocery shopping and I had already figured out that my neighborhood was not part of the evacuation (my community has some excellent emergency service notifications). Two of the three local affiliates were in the parking lot interviewing people. I had a mic pushed at me when I was walking to the car. Do you really want me to comment on yet another corporation poisoning water/soil/air that will never suffer a single uncomfortable moment? Unlike the people that have to evacuate their homes because there has been a likely carcinogen released? Is that what you want to go on the "news" tonight. I swear to fucking god all they want to do is bear witness to suffering. Media, politicians, corporations, all of them.

What do you guys think about RFK ? (since it seems that he is serious about running)

If he runs as an independent the polls are giving him about 15 to 25% of the vote. What is really a lot, especially if we consider that in 2020 swing states were taken by a point or less. Therefore this would completely disrupt pretty much all electoral conventions that US is used to.

Further to your point, would RFK as an independent hurt Trump or Biden more? He is a crackpot antivaxxer and conspiracy theory buff from what I understand, which I think would appeal most to MAGA and Q anon nuts, so my instinct would be that would draw away from Trump and the Republicans. But one never knows when it comes to those kind of irrational thinkers.

Total crank, conspiracy theorist, anti-vaxxer and kook. Also an environmental lawyer. But I don't think he sees the presidency as a smash and grab the way Trump does or evil like the GOP in general - I haven't heard him come out against reproductive rights (encompasses far more than abortions - those are all under attack by the GOP including contraception) or other rights. I do have huge issues with his position on unions though, this is the single issue that would make me not vote for him, theoretically, or anyone else anti-union.

Yeah anti union is a sure fire way to lose my vote.
Agreed. Antivaxxers also bother me quite a lot. I'm very frustrated with a lot of people very invested in believing something that isn't true while not believing something that is true.
