Cold War propaganda was very effective. Anything remotely tired to Socialism or Communism, combined with atheisms/agnosticism and the mythology of the "government handout" (which has never applied to corporations or entirely subsidized industries and military) iced over with non-stop fear mongering, lack of education and adverseness to intellectualism, and this is what you end up with. A moronic population, armed to the teeth, being propagandized into a race and deadly culture war, even to their own detriment, because some politician told them to. In a nutshell.

Yes and that is in my opinion the absurd part. Since the social market economy was the ideology of pretty much all first world US allies during the cold war. Which decided to stand with you against communism in that era. What is still the case today and US is the one that is kinda removed from the pack, now when the main problem is China. Not to mention that US seems to suffer heavily due to it's very old school interpretation of Capitalism. What is one of the main glitches of the western block at this point.

I mean, look at what we are dealing with.

People that think like this are absolutely not going to be able to grasp market socialism, social democracy or any sort of nuanced discussion on mixed economy, public cooperatives or nationalized industries that function for the country entirely (healthcare, energy, agriculture). Nothing.

I am here long enough to realize that. However there are cures for that as well. The obvious one is that the Democratic party actually has to stand for regulated and people friendly versions of Capitalism. After that you educate those that you can and after that you pull in the ones that are left, until they realize about what this is all about. Although you have to think this through in details, so that the implementation goes well. After all in your closest allies this is working for many generations and therefore it can work in US as well. As the link says hard core leftists also don't like this model since it removes the need to implement their ideas. Since private property stays, democracy stays and market stays, but the worst elements of Capitalism are quiet down through laws and how money flows through society.

The biggest irony is that what militant Christians are pushing is basically completely incompatible with what the Jesus was saying.

A small group of political extremists would like us to believe their interpretation of the recent cancellations of scheduled Christian nationalist events in Lancaster County; those events included a discussion on Pennsylvania’s supposed founding as an “explicitly Christian state.”

Wow, that's an interesting interpretation of what William Penn was doing. So much respect for history these people have, lol. They just interpret history to suit their own personal preferences.

I guess I have been listening to that bullshit all my life, growing up in various churches across PA. Basically this was a "Christian nation" and secular forces and Democrats are making it a godless country, so there has always been talk about "saving the country", restoring prayer to schools, getting rid of abortion rights, wiping out all the immorality, and "putting God in charge of the country again" which usually involves in voting for Republicans. This has blossomed into the evangelical and more Pentecostal style groups (the latter having even more consideration of end of world scenarios).

Quakers are actually pretty decent, and the mainstream protestants tend to be more open to diversity and not forcing religion on people -- but we all see now what is happening to the Methodist church (and it's happened before -- the church my mom and I attended for some years in the 1990's was created by breaking off the Methodists because "they allowed gay people/pastors") which is splintering.

For some reason, they all got it in their damn fool heads that folks originally coming here from England due to religious persecution and wanting to establish an open environment with freedom from government forcing religion was about reestablishing the 'real church.' They indoctrinate their kids to believe that the intent was always for their version of Christianity to be the basis of the USA and is in fact the true basis, and if they care about their country, they will fight to reestablish it according to God's law and it's the prior SCOTUS and government from the 1940-90's that took God out of society etc. Sorry for overgeneralizing a bit there... But the kids are raised with that as the default, and so are wary of other viewpoints.

Naw, you are painting a clear picture, so I appreciate you educating me on that. I don't see it as an overgeneralization.

I'm convinced that the GOP has no problem with destroying this country as long as they think there is a chance they can win the culture war. I'm basing my crazy insane conclusions on things conservatives have actually said.

Of course it is. But there is barely anyone left with living memory of the last time these cockroaches had a go at power so lets just get ready to do it all over again.
