*maniacal laughter*
my intentions are good
also how much are they paying you to promote the game - you seem WAY too knowledgable on the topic![]()
That's so cooll : O
600 AD:
started with greece, sooon got hopelites then upgraded to my warriors to swordmen or however they're called.
I now control the main continent and about 8-9 cities (crushed all but 2 city states I'm keeping around for fun + ended the Japanese civilization after they dared insult my Mars-ordained rule by calling me a warmonger

I'll develop my sailing / cultural influence / maximize my city's outputs + trade and keep afloat of military innovations while looking for whoever's left.
I might keep a civilization around, and see them pitifuly reach around for the scraps only to see me reach for the stars, moments before their nuclear anihilation.
My dream of World Peace, fulfilled at last![]()
Did you play as Gorgo or Pericles?
I treat religion in civ games like a drug dealer. I spread it across the world and get people hooked raking me in lots of benefits.
What's even better in VI is that you can chose a couple ways to lead your religion. You can do it in a peaceful way which gives you culture, food, and bonuses to build your cities (India & Kongo would be good for this) or you can take aggressive benefits to spread by the sword ( Spain comes to mind).
Did you know the lyrics?
I got civilization V more recently and I am already starting to enjoy it. Which is saying something since I just recently got it, and usually I never play these kinds of games do to wanting faster paced things.
I took the default guy, so pericles I guess? Long beard, wise looking.
Didn't check if I could choose an alternate - didn't see the option.
In CIV V religion is just a load of useless crap that means nothing anymore but a few bonuses. In Civ IV religion meant something and could even be the reason for wars. Some religions were less hostile to others, while others were very. There was a mechanic behind religion and the way it spread. In Civ V religion was turned into some sort of "Candy Crush"/"Facebook" points with no real implication.
The question is, what is religion like in Civ VI? I have not played yet and I was curious is the problems of the past were fixed.
I still enjoy Civ IV more than all of them. I played Civ since the first game. I'm an old fan and saw the game evolve. I just think it's better overall. Unit stacking is great. You can have the 1st army, the 2nd army and a reserve 3rd army roaming and encircling cities or forming quick response teams. In Civ V everybody keeps stepping on each other's toes. It's annoying. The prev game did it better. I know that the new one also doesn't do unit stacking, so that is a minus, wish they put it as an option.
Are there end game videos now? The prev one did not have it and it was annoying. I mean, it rewards the player with a nice ending and encourages you to choose a different win tactic every time at least to see the different endings.
And who could forget the Baba Yetu song and that awesome intro screen that just made it feel like history being remade instead of a simple game. Even if I got the expansions I always kept the original intro and screen. It's just more majestic and significant.
And Leonard. Leonard Nimoy (Spock). Can't beat that.
I went all nostalgic there, but I will throw a bit of time into this game, I was wondering if there is anything that is memorable in the new game because reviews don't always reflect the feel of the game.
Yeah Pericles then. He's the more 'peaceful' leader but still is great at military thanks to the free wildcard slot for Greece and Hoplites. I'm thinking about playing a game with Pericles becoming suzerain of all city states and watching my culture skyrocket.![]()

Okey so my mini opinion:
the pros
- it's a very good civ game
- addictive
- feels more 'strategic' than the previous iteration (the space civ)
- For some reason the turn based thing seemed glitchy or something. It would tell me 'next turn' only to give me more actions to do within the same turn. wtf. That was my biggest issue. (accumulate 150-250 iterations of the 'not quite finished' turn and tell me if you're not bothered)
- The absence of unit stacking is a bit annoying at first, BUT it does add tactic complexity to the gameplay (you have to attack from multiple angles and have to use a combo of ranged and contact troops from the start of the game) and there IS the option of corps and armies so that makes it a good thing overall.
- Religious victories seem a bit easy to me at this point - you just send unstoppable missionaries everywhere and if anyone says anything you get a huge combat effectiveness boost for fighting within 'converted' territories.
- To me at least the late game got a bit boring (but I still had this need for one more turn).
LOVED the early gane, then it gets a bit repetitive.
- There are some bugs (not really game breaking - and I'm sure will be fixed soon.
In my current game (one civ away from domination victory and science victory in the works)
- started off in a continent with about 9 city states + only one civ (japan)
- started crushing surrounding city states then realized the bonuses offered by some of them were good, so became suzerain of the remaining three (I can still occupy city states that don't quite fit my strategic goals to screw over other civilization by taking away their bonuses from envoys)
- crushed japan
- had the whole continent by 600 AD.
errors I made / frustrations I've had
- I didn't know about production stacking (and my continent is quite fucking flat for mines) so my production was too low to get an early science victory (my science output gave me all the techs by the late 1800 hundreds but then i need like 200 turns to get the damn projects out T_T - It doesnt make sense to me: How can SCIENCE not play a role in the construction of the things you need for a SCIENTIFIC victory.
- I didn't know how religions worked exactly, focused on military early on / didn't do any faith based facilities early on so I didn't get any prophet and couldn't start a real religion : (
- I only started looking for other continents in the 1600 hundreds or so
things that pissed me off:
- barbarians showing up randomly near my cities (and suddenly developing advanced tech so after 500 years of basic troops I get to fend off 3 modern rocket infantry troops while at war on another continent)
- enemy troops showing up in the middle of my territory (I mean it didn't look like they actually came to attack - it looks like they were beamed in star trek style)
