I was thinking the average hysteria revolved around not wanting to wait in line for 3 hours for 3 rolls of toilet paper (Soviet Russia), and even that's a histrionic fear about something that'll never happen. Are you really saying you believe the policies Bernie wants to implement can kill even a single person? eta: Do you even know how, or is it just a general fear that socialism kills people? /eta

I don't know what to tell you except that anyone who would say that clearly has no idea what "democratic socialism" is, that you maybe even think "socialism" and "communism" are interchangeable (because your response isn't even accurate about absolute socialism), and it's hard not to see your response as an example of how effective the fear mongering is.

I'm guessing you aren't aware of how many people currently die as a direct result of not having access to medical attention and/or medication (in the more 'free market's model)? That's what Democrats/ Medicare For All is trying to fix.

However to be honest with you I am not sure this is the best message for 2020. There is no need to wave the anti-capitalism flag since your position isn't anti-capitalist. Just if you have government involved in the healthcare that doesn't mean you will stop being a capitalist country. A lot more would have to change for US to stop being capitalist nation and I don't really see those changes. In other words you are making the case for regulated Capitalism instead of unregulated Capitalism. For some reason USA as a nation is convinced that the only true Capitalism is unregulated one, while more regulated one is Socialism. What can only be claimed by someone who has never been in genuine socialism for a single day. I presume this has something to do with the whole wild west thing but regulated Capitalism is still Capitalism. The difference between Capitalism and Socialism is basically in the ownership over the means of production. Therefore regulated Capitalism is still Capitalism, especially if not everything is regulated down to the last detail.



In other words I think that certain people are losing potential voters over something that isn't even true. I don't think I have seen a single American politician that didn't strike me as some kind of Capitalist. I get that someone wants to have this "anti-system" label but that may not be the best approach when it come to PR issues. Therefore instead of rising the anti-capitalist hysteria it would perhaps be better to talk about "fixing Capitalism". What seems more like what the American left actually wants to do.

Ha. I enjoy talking with you, you remind me of a few people I respect in my personal life so you sort of earn it by association. I only mentioned the fact that socialism has killed millions because it has. I mean it is what it is- that's the stigma you're carrying around trying to get people to overlook, but beyond that for other reasons I'll elaborate on, I just find the system completely unpalatable. Before that I'd like to just point out that nobody dies from not having health insurance. They die from diseases and accidents. I never had health insurance in my 20s, and I didn't die as a consequence, so let's just take a moment to acknowledge that syntax of that statement is misleading.

I consider socialism a very feminine system of government that prioritizes immediate feelings of safety over long term sustainability- particularly in regards to holding back the infiltration of corruption and maintaining national defenses against enemy nations. I don't think anyone with any competitive masculine sensibilities, such as myself, is interested in a system that doesn't reward those sensibilities- as capitalism does. I want a chance to be better than other people, to have more than other people; to be better than myself, to have more than myself. On a spiritual level- and I'm not alone- there is just nothing about socialism that will ever appeal to me. I'm sorry.

It's not a message I would use in 2020 and I don't know that anyone actually is. I've never heard Bernie or Warren or anyone say that destroying capitalism and becoming a completely socialist economy is something desirable or even possible. I don't think it is either and most economists would say a mixed economy, which much of the world uses, is the best way forward. But it doesn't make what I said any less true. Although I have yet to hear anyone mention acceleration-ism, which tells me it's simply an unwillingness to grasp that even capitalism has other avenues.

That kind of thinking must be why the forum doesn't care to turn off the spigot of toxic personal insults until they're reciprocated by those being insulted, resulting in "bickering."

The comment bothers me less than the overall negative environment here, cultivated by a few select posters whose constant insults and bigotry against the right leaning minority group go completely ignored (often perpetuated) by administrators, until members of that minority step off of the high road for a second and return fire to those few select posters in kind. Then suddenly and magically they can see the negativity that has been blanketing the thread from the start.

The fact that you hinge your acceptance of an economic system on how it makes you feel - that it's threatening to your masculinity - is unhealthy. Now that you have health insurance, you might want to look into some mental health care.

Sorry, I find it difficult to take anyone seriously when the reason behind their vote is wanting to "shake things up." That seems like the most vapid reason to choose a candidate. What exactly are they wanting to "shake up"? Sounds like something someone would say when they're talking about their favorite game show changing hosts. I expect a little more reasoning and substance when we're talking about electing heads of state. But then again, given Trump's past as a reality TV star and frequent subject of tabloid headlines, I guess it's not that surprising some of his supporters use these metrics in deciding who to vote for.

As for socialism, I mean- it is responsible for the deaths of millions, so maybe team left aught to just come up with something that isn't and make sure it has its own name. In a purely socialistic system, government owns and controls the means of production. No Dem is suggesting such a system supplant the USA's capitalistic system. And you know it.
