I watched the movie Dumb Money recently, about the Game Stop story, it was interesting, better than I had expected, and it got me thinking, shares, investments and investing, passive income, its all more prominent than it once was, with stories like that one and the hawk tuan girl who seems to have used her fifthteen minutes of fame to engineer a bitcoin heist, do you think you understand trading and investment, its role in the world, how it works, if you can directly or indirectly benefit from it any better than you did?
Is it possible, do you think, that with increased knowledge and access via platforms that finance could be democratized or engineered in such a way that the masses and not simply the classes or old money can derive benefits? Or do you think that passive income is a pipe dream and this is just another instance of convincing the public that they are temporarily embarrassed millionaires to keep frankenstein capitalism shambling along for another day?
I'm undecided myself, I know that there is A LOT of it that either resembles a casino (I would never consider bitcoin or similar ideas to be anything other than snake oil or long cons) and that which doesnt can be simple snake oil or duping people economically in the same way its been proven so easy to do so politically by celebrities like Trump. That said, I do think it has potential, even if it is only in revealing to people the state of the rigged game they are part of and perhaps achieving some sort of change. What's your view?
