Rule of Acquisition 34; War is good for business.
The world runs on shady shit. But the Grand Negus's greed should reflect the greed of the people. not the other way around.

I like the nuance of Ferengi philosophy as portrayed in DS9. The difference between the Ferengi and the powerful elite of real world Earth is that the Ferengi were fully self-aware of their corruption and made no excuses or attempts to hide it. In a sense, there was nothing all that corrupt about them, since they had codified their ways, and were thus acting in accordance with their values. Unlike the current lot of Hoo-mon politicians wearing a façade of compassion for the little man. Although the Ferengi appeared corrupt and backstabbing to outsiders like those sanctimonious, root beer swilling federation types, they were possibly one of the most honorable races in the alpha quadrant. Klingons like Gowron claimed to be honorable warriors who didn't resort to backroom politics, and yet Gowron and Klingons like Duras weren't above backroom politicking when it benefitted themselves. At least the Ferengi openly admitted and embraced their nature.
