What you are implying is perhaps logical but in my book this isn't really logical "game" but a question of values and loyalty. Very good chunk of USA is totally ok with shooting at 5th Avenue if they think that the person deserved it, what we Europeans think about this as a principle doesn't really matter here.

That is just it: I believe Trump's cult, like Hitler's, stems less from love of what they stand for in terms of values, but rather from the tribal feelings their efforts in mass psychology instill in them. Now imagine Goebbels had stopped working for Hitler and started to expose his crimes as crimes as opposed to great deeds in the service of the people when the concentration camps began killing prisoners in droves. Not everyone who supported Hitler was a bad person; they were simply sheep, as most conservatives are.

Obviously, this assumes that Fox News will turn on Trump. It is a risky proposition given its record of serfdom. But if there is a point at which the 'News' part of the name has to be saved from dying for good, it may well be now.

This is not the end of bad information about Trump to come out. It is the beginning. Impeachment gives Democrats so much more power to compel witnesses to testify and to get hitherto secret documents.

UBI sounds great. It'd really help me out a lot but it'd never work in a Capitalist country. A recent study involving monkeys suggest that it's within our DNA to feel jilted if we receive the same payment as someone we see as doing less work.
There would have to be SOME way to continue 'punishing' those who are seen as contributing less or it'd never fly with the greater population.

I'm not saying I agree with this way of thinking, I really do not, but there is just no way it would ever accepted if it were truly universal...and that is IF we do somehow find the money to cover it.

I don't know what exactly he suggested (as I already said). It is just that UBI can go very wrong depending on the model you use.


The thing is that your concerns can be bypassed with the concept that UBI doesn't provide much money and therefore creates the mentioned type of drama. The only problem is that such UBI wouldn't serve it primary goal. Can this really work in a Capitalist country ? I can't really say but I don't see why it fundamentally couldn't, I have seen crazier things implemented than UBI. It perhaps takes time that some people get used to it but humans can be pretty flexible in that regard. Although in that case you no longer have a genuine capitalist country.

As I said we will see. At this point everyone knows that the guy is morally fish and people still stand by him. I would fully take your position in the case that the democrats are saints but they aren't and they aren't really perceived as such. This is exactly why the whole Trump cult came into the existence in the first place and therefore I don't really see this as the end of Trump. The senate needs to vote 2/3 in favor of this and democrats don't even have a majority. In the case they need half perhaps you can flip a few seats but the difference is just too large between what you have and what you need.


Plus since I am from the part of the world where cult of personality is nothing new I can say that: when the big daddy survives a fight it gains more support (since winning is quality on it's own). This is stupid but this is how things work for some, especially if they are desperate since the system is falling apart. Therefore they hope that the strongman will save them with his strength and ability to bypass the rules, while in return they will give support. This is exactly why I claim that logic doesn't mean much here, since the bond is emotional.

A little-noticed court filing from August contains a shocking allegation made by a disgruntled Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employee: that President Trump attempted to interfere with some aspect of the agency’s mandatory presidential audit system.

That court filing includes a letter authored by House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) which is addressed to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and describes the situation thusly:

On July 29, 2019, the Committee received an unsolicited communication from a Federal employee setting forth credible allegations of “evidence of possible misconduct”-specifically, potential “inappropriate efforts to influence” the mandatory audit program.

House Democrats were apparently already worried about such an improper use of presidential power in the abstract.

“This is a grave charge that appreciably heightens the Committee’s concerns about the absence of appropriate safeguards as part of the mandatory audit program and whether statutory codification of such program or other remedial, legislative measures are warranted,” the letter continues.

Beyond general concerns, however, Democrats now claim to have some undisclosed–but specific–information supporting that belief. And they seem to think the Trump Administration is lying about it.

The Neal-Mnuchin letter continues:

The Committee has raised these concerns repeatedly, both in prior correspondence as well as at the June 10 briefing with staff from both Treasury and the IRS. Commissioner [Charles] Rettig, in his May 17, 2019 letter, responded that the “concern that IRS employees could be subject to undue influence when conducting mandatory audits of a President’s tax returns” is “unfounded.” The allegations received by the Committee cast doubt on this statement and underscore the pressing need for complete and meaningful oversight of the mandatory audit program.

As a result of that IRS whistleblower complaint, Neal requested “a rolling production of documents and communications of specified Treasury and IRS employees.”

Mnuchin was sent the letter on August 8 and given a deadline of August 13 to reply–which he did. In his response, Mnuchin declined to cooperate with Neal’s request and said he referred the matter to the Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG).

If you have a no-contact request with someone and they break it, best to report it and we will follow up. If you think the time has come to bury the hatchet, meaning you are willing to have contact again, notify the member privately. As long as they agree, the request is mutually off, but it is always mutual.

That implies I believe the bullshit the media says about Trump. I for one, supported him by what characteristics I see in him, and his capabilities, and results. I do not hate Trump's behaviors, but I don't expect 100% goody twoshoes either because it is politics. The very nature of it is dirty and abhorrent. What I see in Trump is someone fighting against all odds to accomplish what he believes will benefit the country. His beliefs frequently align with my own. I also don't believe in asskissing to Democrats like most Republicans do, and neither does Trump. Nor do I think any leader should show weakness to others etc.

Long story short, I think Trump is a troll, and also gets shit done. His actions, while bold and offensive, do not betray his intentions.​
