I figured someone would make a fuss about it coming from a Libertarian group. It was shared by Vermin Supreme on my facebook feed, so sue me.

Vermin Supreme btw, most view him as the silly guy with the boot on his head, but if you've ever heard him speak, he's actually a very intelligent, insightful person and not the standard fare libertarian. He's somewhere between syndicalist and mutualist, but primarily a satirist. Not saying I agree with everything he says, but I'd take him over what the corporatist GOP and authoritarian Dems have to offer, because he at least has substantial arguments vs the same tiring do-nothing rhetoric we're getting from the current powers-that-be. And the world needs more satire, especially in the realm of government and politics. People in those spheres take themselves way too seriously.

True, but just don't overlook the detail that is in the top right corner. What is still something that shouldn't be overlooked.
But yeah, this is something that will resonate with many.

Oh I agree with you. I'm just saying this meme is being used everywhere for all kinds of messages.

I didn't even notice until VG pointed it out - I wasn't making a fuss. I like Vermin, he's authentic and insightful. If there was more of him and less of this...

More people would consider listening to what they have to say. But most will not read beyond this stupid tweet.

I'm sure you know how much of an r/prequelmemes person I am (although I haven't checked it out recently). Of course I have.

Anyway, Australian football is a lot like American football and apparently it's about as popular in certain parts of Australia, like Melbourne (other places are more into Rugby, according to an Australian person).

I love some prequel memes, and Raimi memes are also great.

You mean like Bully Maguire (from Spiderman 3, I presume) ? I've seen those but haven't as gotten into them.

I do occasionally reference the bit from the first spiderman movie when he starts shooting out sticky goo from his body for the first time, or from the second one where he tries to shoot out sticky goo and it doesn't work.

Biden-Ghani meeting: Afghan president makes last-ditch effort to stop Taliban gains

Judging by this the country will be overrun by the end of the year.

Well it seems like Kabul is the only part of the country that's isn't under Taliban control.

Edit: Ok that's an exaggeration, but it still doesn't look great. Kabul is very nearly encircled (I don't see a point in drawing a distinction between the Taliban areas and the "contested" areas.... it's been 20 damn years).

This map is from an article written January 2020. Doubtful it's improved any since then.

Well, judging by the news the map is evidently not improving.
Without support the government just doesn't have the resources and it super dysfunctional. However I still claim that the key to success here was actually making that government functional. Since that dysfunction was problem multiplier the whole time.

Well, we can't make another government functional if our own government isn't even functional. It also probably helps if your dominant ideology isn't "functional government bad".

Yeah, that was also a part of my argument here a few months back. If you can't fix water supply in your own backyard the odds are that you wouldn't be able to do it on the other side of the globe.

If people want to live in a country where the government is off your back and people respect traditional values they should really consider moving to Afghanistan.

That doesn't necessarily follow. Are you not familiar with the saying, "A prophet has no honor in his home country"? I think it is from the Bible. There may be an element of shooting the messenger here, in that at home, everyone is familiar with the person pushing for change, perhaps mistrustful based on past disagreements, and easily distracted into debating his shortcomings. In "another land" he is shiny and new, something from the outside which often brings its own cachet, someone who can perhaps cut through the tailchasing of the local system or community.

That is exactly why I said "the odds are" part.
I mean do you guys still have factories at home that make water pipes ? (since that issue was a part of this equation)
