ID is not controversial to me either. But when it becomes a tactic of the right to suppress voters, I have a problem with that. But this is where the biggest issue is in my opinion...

Republicans in Georgia have passed a sweeping elections bill that voting rights advocates say is a bald-faced attempt at voter suppression.

The new law imposes new voter identification requirements for absentee ballots, empowers state officials to take over local elections boards, limits the use of ballot drop boxes and makes it a crime to approach voters in line to give them food and water.

That is a much MUCH more consequential part of this new law. Any election GA state officials don't like - they can refuse to certify. I worked the 2018 and 2020 elections in my red county - I am very aware of how badly the GOP/conservatives/right wing authoritarians want this in many states.
