Oddly enough, find myself oddly sympathetic towards Elizabeth Holmes, and thinking that her prison sentence for criminal fraud to be excessive. Quite honestly, I find it hard not to think that any prison term would be excessively punitive if restitution (even partial restitution) were at all possible. There is a stink of a kind of levelling, vindictive demagoguery, as far as the current administration is concerned, in the entire thing for what are essentially financial matters (questions of money), resulting in vicious attacks in the press. And the fact that among those claiming to have been affected by her fraud were, comparatively recently during the previous administration, high-level government and military officials adds another layer to the severity of her sentence.

No idea as it's never happened before except during the war of 1812 when they had no funds as the US treasury was on fire. But my guess is that they will make everyone and everything wait until the last possible second then that bitch McCarthy will fold. Of course this continues to convey a huge lack of stability from the US and the blame can go right on Republicans.

I am yet again translating a sustainability report for a larger company.

These are business people, out to make money. If they (and their numbers) say climate change is a threat to prosperity and climate action pays off, that not doing enough to stop or at least mitigate climate change is economically unsound .... you better listen to them.

They are not coming from an "ideological" perspective (i.e. trying to do good for the planet and humanity) but simply saying that it make sense in dollars and cents to go green and go green quickly.

The irony is that Florida will be the most screwed.

It's probably not all driven by retirees who won't be around, either.

Yeah I find it ironic as well, one of the places in the whole world that should be hit the hardest is Florida. However they are one of the loudest to oppose any measures.

But to be honest this is surely out of seeking emotional comfort. I once read an article that says that as soon as climate change is fully recognized as a fact that things in Florida will start running out of control. Since realestate market would crash and wouldn't recover. Many people would leave over the next few years and that would dig a big hole in economy. People would seek to retire somewhere else ..... etc. It would just cripple the state even before things go down hill climate wise. Therefore many simply don't want to live with the fact that on the long run they are all basically living on Titanic.

I've seen the power of the Republican denial machine many times. I'm not sure it would happen that early.
