The fundamental quality of a free society is that the fullest range of beliefs and behaviors are allowed, including ones that don't make sense to me or to you, until they directly violate another person's freedom.

In pure theory this is how it should work. But it can't since beliefs have consequences.
Therefore if some beliefs don't make sense to you there are chances that they indeed don't make sense and therefore they are counter-productive or even dangerous. Therefore this should be cleared out through conversation and debate. In other words allowing just about anything can be harmful for society. Since freedom can't work on the long run without general responsibility. The part of the equation that most people like to forget these days.

There are very few things people do that make sense to me.

There were several attacks on police officers, firefighters and paramedics during new year's eve in Berlin. In some cases cars were set on fire in order to lure firefighters to certain places and then beat up the firefighters. According to first reports of the Berlin police there were a little over 150 arrests, 2/3 of them concerning migrants, almost exclusively men.

This triggered a nationwide debate on the social integration of young migrants and how there is a whole subculture of young foreignborn men who are full of potential for violence and don't respect this country and its laws, etc. Conservative politicians even demanded to see lists of the suspect's first names (dueto data protection laws names of suspects and even convicts normally aren't made public) to see how many of them were "foreign" (in the sense of being called Mehmet rather than Thomas, not in the sense of their passport).

Then they lowered the number to 145 arrests. Now it turns out that it was only 38 suspects arrested ... and 2/3 of them were German nationals. The only consistent datapoint is that the vast majority of the perpetrators is male.

It seems there will be some kind of a bi partisan bill/plan to rebuild collapsed parts of US.
I doubt it. Highly. They can pass whatever they want, right wing kook state legislatures won't use it for the purpose. See Jackson Mississippi who has had millions and millions of federal dollars poured in over the years to deal with the water situation.

This means that there could be such program but in reality it will not matter too much. Shame, since some areas could evidently use some aid.

When Tesla decided to build its European gigafactory in Northeast Germany local politicians praised this as a great job creator and start of an economic boom. Locals and environmentalists pointed out that the factory would consumer immense quantities of water in a region that has been suffering from drought for many years.

Now the metal workers union IG Metall (one of the biggest unions) is reporting substandard working conditions: work under extreme temperatures, excessive extra hours and pay below industry standards (those hired first got offered Tesla stocks instead of higher pay - which they now regret - while those hired later got better pay because not enough qualified workers were willing to work for Tesla under the initially offered conditions) and unusual non-disclosure agreements which have people scared to even talk to unions. Apparently the company also published a job ad for security staff with "law enforcement or secret service experience" to "proactively" spy on "internal and external threats". Labor rights and labor standards tend to be stronger here than in the US, so this comes as a bit of a culture shock, to put it mildly. Then again, not really surprising if you have ever heard anything about what Musk is like as an employer.

This is the identical argument fundamental Islam also uses. Men can't control themselves so it's 100% on women to do it for them.

What dumb fuckery...

We've come all the way back around...
Can we just lock these guys in chastity instead?

You'd be forgiven for thinking this is more about pushing women out of politics than about clothing.

The more conservative a party is the fewer female legislators it tends to have. No surprise the US has fewer female delegates than Western Europe, Canada, New Zealand or Australia (and those that they have are mostly Dems). Same here in Germany, the further to the right the lower the percentage of female politicians and delegates. When the far-right AfD entered the Bundestag the total share of women in parliament suddenly dropped. Over here the far-left and the Greens have more women than men, the center-left has slightly more men, the center-right has clearly more men and the far-right has hardly any women at all.

I read that men in this legislative body have long been required to wear shirts, ties, and jackets, yet no one gets up in arms (pun intended) about that. Either make the requirements comparable in what needs to be covered, or get rid of them altogether.

Clothing is status. Naked people have little to no effect on society. Everything is about sex except sex. Sex is about power. Politics is clothing for ideology. Hence Politics is clothing for ideology. I'd still like to see all the men on the far right locked in chastity. ;3

That's true of the GOP as a whole - very few women and the ones they have gatekeep their vile life philosophies - but this would impact all women in the legislature of MO. Including Dems (I'm sure they'd like to see less of them too). They don't seem to have any issue with sleeveless women on Fox that sell the right sexuality every day. The GOP is generally white and male, not sure why any woman would want to be part of them including voting for them.

Incidentally, the far left is mostly men in the US too.
