Yeah, because the idea of having to go back to a long commute and being underpaid compared to private sector won't result in a bunch of feds just retiring now or going to private sector and thus undermining what work the government hopes to accomplish.

Not all fed employees are located in DC either, although obviously a decent chunk are.

McCarthy is a complete jello spine so the extremists seem to have it right in this one particular case. He is a big part of the reason Trump and the MAGA thing are still alive — because McCarthy didn't have the backbone to stand up to them and move on.
