I’m glad Kamala may be making inroads with men. She’s already got my support.
That said, if she (and democrats as a whole) really want to win the male bloc, and keep them in 2028 and beyond, there are legitimate issue democrats need to address and make part of their platform beyond the typical lip service:
-family court reform. A push for father’s rights. Mandatory paternity tests for all newborn babies.
-the boy crisis in education/young mens’ failure to launch. A White House office for boys and men would be a start.
-reframing of how men are viewed by default as aggressors of women, when in reality those aggressors form a small minority of all men. Yes, most women have experienced some form or harassment or abuse by men, but it’s usually repeat offenders and a small slice of men that are responsible, not the gender as a whole.
-the incel crisis. It’s a lot bigger than people realize and far more people fall into this category, beyond the ones actively involved in internet groups and forums. Many are just giving up and being content to live alone or in their parents’ basements. One area the right is correct is that families are a cornerstone of a healthy civilization. i just disagree with them that this is limited to the traditional idea of family, ie only ones with hetero parents, and would expand that to include all types of families. A nation of millions of de facto incels is not healthy for the family or for a sustainable society and should be taken as a harbinger of imminent collapse
-full support for a ban on all forms of non consensual genital mutilation.
Pundits endlessly debate how democrats can connect with and get more male votes but it’s rare I hear any of the above issues mentioned in depth, if at all. For instance, I just listened to an NPR segment regarding Kamala’s attempt to connect with more male voters, and you would think it was some grand mystery the way they pondered how exactly democrats could do better with male voters. It’s really not rocket science, just start by adding father’s rights and family court reform to the platform and that alone would win a lot of support. This is a demographic that has felt abandoned by that party and it’s no surprise so many otherwise liberal men have drifted to the right in the last decade or two.
