An open Conspiracy is hardly hidden motives.
The wealthy "elite" would rather have skynet judgement day than pay workers a living wage, own a nice home, have a decent quality of life, or ability to start a family.
It is a media coup.
Its rich oligarchs trying to control the president.
Pop pop has proven himself to be a man of the people.
The Nobility cannot have that.

Biden is dropping out in favor of Harris.

Why isn't Obama endorsing Harris? Why is he refusing to "tip the scales" in the Democratic Party? He didn't mind doing that in 2020. Uggggh, that man infuriates me so much. He never gives good reasons for doing things like this. WTF is he doing?

With regards to Harris, I'm neutral about her. I don't buy the argument that this country is too bigoted to elect someone who is X. That's ridiculous. This is an ironic example, but we've already done that twice.

This does make me feel more optimistic; I'm sure others will disagree.

He and many others aren't sure that she can win the general. Therefore he will wait a little bit to see some of fresh polling.

In other words if the numbers are a disaster there should be completely open convention (position held by many insiders).

As much as he is revered by the electorate, he really has been such a blight on the party in terms of everyone that isn't him. He dissuaded Biden to run in 2016 in favor of Hillary, believing she was the more electable candidate between the two. Congressional Democrat's got absolutely decimated with him at the party helm, despite starting his presidency with a supermajority and he himself being a pretty popular president. He reluctantly decided to help Biden towards the very end of his 2020 campaign cycle, and even now he's like playing the wait and see approach when enthusiasm within the party towards a candidate hasn't been this high since he himself was running.

Despite him being a very smart person himself, his political instincts kinda suck.

I find it extremely frustrating to observe.

Another time he made me feel that way was in August 2016 when he was trying to ram the TPP trade deal through Congress. This wasn't popular with Republicans or Democrats. I'm convinced it did much to hurt Hillary by positioning the Democratic Party as the party of trade deals that siphon away jobs from Americans.

It wasn't the only time he tried to do this, either.

That doesn't seem like a good idea. Now it's important to make sure people choose from more options? Why not earlier when the primaries started? I've been vocal about how much I dislike the primary system, though.

But what sign of internal division is there? I haven't heard much about alternatives to Harris. And if there is internal division, isn't it better for him to throw his hat in the realm sooner than later? A lot of people still listen to him...

There are a bunch of politicians in a room together. Its there, if subtle.

The video does a pretty good job of explain why Obama coming across as not having stake in it comes across as more reasonable than rushing. It's good they're so far presenting a unified(for dems) front finally. But The DNC is more important than it was before. You're gonna see a lot of things start happening very quickly. Also sometimes its better to not put your finger on the scale, and see what people are gonna do. Some people will rebel just because someone puts their seal on something.

But its almost always better to never rush, and be reactionary in your strategy.

It's great to see what people are going to do. I'm just wary of theories of "five-dimensional chess" no matter who they apply to. I don't think humans can play five-dimensional chess.

I think this business with Kamala will throw the GOP off balance (which is good), although I'm not sure for how long.

It's not 5-d chess. It's just not running to break down the doors to sharing their opinion right away. Outside of the internet, that's a pretty normal simple strategic reaction.

Just as I said but people here didn't believe me: this switch just had to be done. Joe did some nice things over the years but at this point he simply became dead end street due to basic human biology. In multi party system it is totally normal that you change your top candidate if there is something openly wrong with the person. Because if you don't you are risking that you get 0 seats, 0 EVs or whatever because others will have better candidates. US binary system is somewhat more linear than that but at the end of the day you still have to put out someone that is more likable than what the other party has. Therefore the great switch had to be done for the sake of opening the path that is visible to all. In other words if the path is visible that greatly increases the chances that more people will take it.

It's not that we didn't believe you, fellow random stranger on the internet, its more, we're used to the dems having a certain seeming allergy to winning, and being pissed that a lot of our media is playing partisan games instead of reporting the news. It's being pissed that the time to do this was last year, the fact that we didnt have a primary because reasons, one bad debate and "people in power" start to rabbit, so the news starts piling on, making more people rabbit, and now here we are in the happy accident that it's going well. It's refreshing to see this level of Democrats instead of rabbiting in all different directions, decided to all rabbit in the same direction, and now they seem like they're actually forming some kind of coherent ranks and actually playing the game to win, rather than mitigate loss. So yeah, I'm glad to see that, didnt think I'd actually get to see it in my life time.

And after Fancy Nancy's "we need a strong republican party" ...for establishment dems to hide behind. If she were to suggest that water was wet, and definitely not contaminated, I would feel a strange need to check that fact out for myself before I took a drink. Paranoid? Maybe, but just because you're paranoid doesnt mean that there isn't a politician out there making a bad idea worse.

So you see, its not so much that we're not agreeing with you. Its more...we've been burned by bright ideas from the democratic party before. Between you me, all the bots, other randos, and the NSA, I'm just happy to see them following through...I figure we're gonna be a might twitchy...I'd like to say till November, but realistically I think things are gonna be twitchy till at least this time next year, even if things go swimmingly.

In any case. Here's to hoping we're all not up to our ass-ists in fascists by then.

I get why people used to talk politics in taverns. *slides you a beer.* :drunk: Glad you were right.

I understand all of that but the party was simply in the dead end. This simply had to be done even of things go wrong in the end (but it seems that this wouldn't be the case).

While Nancy finally realized that Republican party no longer exists in practical sense. Since the party is something else entirely when compared with what it once was. That is basically exactly why this shift has gone so smoothly. Since there is only one shot at this and she knows it.

It's just, REALLY fucking nice to see the team finally acting like they want to take home the prize. We all want the Immortals to not enjoy taking heads, but we still want them to want to win the sword fight. Even if, or perhaps especially if, it's for other people.
After all, there can be only one.

I'm hoping that this current clarity and espirit de corps carries on through November.

I'm not sure you are out of the woods yet. Biden was almost certain to lose to Trump, but I would say Harris is the 2nd most likely candidate to lose to Trump. Switching completely away from the Biden/Harris ticket would have been a brighter idea.

Looks like a coin toss at this point, but we need to wait for things to settle (i.e. post Harris euphoria to fade) and see how polling looks in a month or so. I, personally, would like to see swing state polling numbers on Harris. I don't really need to know every Californian democrat supports her.
