It's interesting that any of the mystic traditions in the big Judaic religions have been marginalized. Kaballah probably least, but it is not considered a necessary study in Judaism. Christian mysticism is always on the fringe. And Sufism has had a rocky past in Islam.
This is strikingly true.
And this is because the mystic claims a spiritual authority that is separate from the institutional authority of religion.
So the religious authority has tried to tame and control the mystic authority, and where this failed, they persecute the mystic.
To put it cynically, mysticism is not a wise career choice within religion.
