This certain place I walk by sometimes on the way from my car to campus always smells like death. I wonder why. At first I thought a stray cat or something had crawled into a dumpster and died, but it kept smelling that way. For months. Not strongly like a human body, either- just enough to be unpleasant. Maybe air is coming up from the sewers, and rats have died down there? Or a homeless guy really far down in them, and that's why the smell isn't strong? Who knows. It's a mystery. A slightly troubling one. I've been avoiding it by walking on the other side of the street.
