Gintautas Paluckas confirmed as Lithuania’s new prime minister

Typical of "reformed" communists. They are all nice until they win elections, but they can't form coalition government on their own. What means that the odds are that they will make a coalition with some of the worst forms of right.

If this is really true EU centrals of center left and the greens should throw out their Lithuanian parties. Exactly as it was done in Slovakia recently (where the same thing happened).

Romanian election: Reformist candidate on track to beat hard-right leader and reach presidential runoff

It is fairly close but it seems that the runoff will be between a leftists and a centrist liberal. The centrist was just a few percent behind the hard right guy in the polls and it seem that she will be able to push him out of the final round. However this is still in the air.

The right wing parties mess this up by running too many candidates that have divided the base in too equal manner. Therefore none will get through as it stands for now.

4:40 LOL at the red east (especially in contrast to western Europe).
I mean this clearly shows how different is life at the west and east of the continent (in general).

Plus this video proves what I was saying a while ago: Many find BSW party confusing, but in reality that is just East European mainstream that has managed to make itself a nest in Germany.

Romania election stunner: Fringe hard-right candidate now set to reach presidential runoff

Plot twist: the exit poll was wrong.
The biggest hard liner is the the one that should make it to the second round. He is even to the right of the guy that was considered to be "dangerous hard right candidate that has a shoot". However if this short profile is correct I really don't see how this isn't Russian pawn of some sort.
I don't follow Romanian politics, but it sounds like this is a best case scenario in the sense that if the far left is out, then all their supporters will be forced to vote centrist (because they obviously won't support the hard right). Ergo, a centrist victory should be assured. Although from what I read, the incumbent is the centrist, so if Romanian's just want change, the right could still surprise. Romania seems to be lacking a center right party, that's a real shame if it drives people to the far right as the only option for mildly conservative voters.
