There was much more interest in it in 2014 because the USA had qualified for the World Cup. This year they didn't, so understandably there is much less enthusiasm for it among Americans (still the vast majority forum members).

That being said, as a German who didn't watch the match against Mexico but heard the Mexicans won deservedly and that our national team was terrible I have rather low expectations for this year. The lastsemi-final against Brazil was epic, more so than the final against Argentina, so it's extremely hard to repeat that and very easy to disappoint.

I overslept and only watched some summaries, but I wouldn't say terrible. Second half of match both teams seemed as were on a par. It's truth though that during first half there were parts when it seemed like Germany team barely followed where was the ball.

I think part of the Mexico success was that contrary to some other South American teams (like Brazil) they didn't let the other team make them play "European football" based on passes, instead they played what they're good at with quick individual actions. To compare watching Brazil I was making jokes that only Neymar got permission to dribble.

So far my favourite match was England Vs Tunisia. Nothing like creating chances over and over again, to fail over and over again but to finally score the winner. When it happens you can never hold back a loud 'yessssssss'.

I cant believe I was cheering England . They surely deserved to win for the massive number of chances they created.

So far VAR has been extremely frustrating. England was unlucky twice, Argentina ones and today Japan. What's the point of VAR if they don't notify the referee? It's frustrating to watch.

Nah I have no favourites since my country has never played in a finals. It's only a dream for us. I usually like to see England win in Rugby and Football - not so much in Cricket -. But I didn't realize the intensity was that strong

However, the amount of bragging their media does is quite unbearable sometimes. They have the ugly habit of reducing the efforts of the opponent's to mere luck. Cricket and Rugby commentary - at an international level -is done 100% in English. So it's hard to escape their bragging.

This time they weren't so retarded in overestimating their team.

PS - I like Harry Kane.

PPS - I was ecstatic to see England win the under-17 world cup final coming from behind 2 nil vs Spain.

They were terrible due to a terrible squad selection. Leroy Sane was a stand out player for a Manchester city squad that broke multiple premier league records and yet somehow he can't earn a spot on the German national team? What a joke.

Meanwhile, for some reason Thomas Mueller is playing on the wing, which is interesting because I've only seem him do well as a shadow striker. He's a tricky player with great awareness and the uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time, but lacks the pace and dribbling skills of the traditional wingers on Bayern Munich like Robben or Ribery. Heck, I would have played Reus as a winger before Mueller, and I think part of the problem is that Ozil, despite playing on an Arsenal team that placed 6th in the premier league, is seen as "untouchable." Replace ozil with Mueller and have Draxler and Sane on the wings, and then when Draxler plays terrible (as he did vs mexico) replace him Reus.

Meanwhile Khedira has always been over rated in my book, and I would have played İlkay Gündoğan alongside Kroos because he too has had an incredible season with Man City and was also instrumental for Dortmund when they won the bundesliga and made it to the champions league final.

All in all when you look at the world's most talented players like Bale, Benzema and Sane then it becomes pretty ridiculous that they're not being featured in the world cup.

I watched the Tunisia vs England match in a bar with some of my work colleagues.

And I can agree: the commentary is appalling. Being English myself it's frustrating to see them play old footage of the 1966 world cup....yet again! It demonstrates how little they understand their fans since there was a collective moan in the packed bar (and it was a theme bar not a pub) when it came on. As far as I can tell we want a well-trained and considered team that isn't arrogantly overblown or harking on about past successes (well....singular success).

Although having said that, did you see Harry Kane getting wrestled to the ground on at least two occasions?

I don't normally even like football or sports, but I like an occasional social gathering and I was actually getting into it. That 2nd goal off the head at 90 mins was great.

Oh yeah English players were fouled TWICE inside the penalty area. I think it was Harry Kane both times. Most people assumed that after VAR was introduced most of the foul play would get caught but apparently we celebrated too early. Same happened to Argentina inside the penalty area. And in yesterday's match of Poland Vs Senegal a goal was scored illegally but again VAR was silent. It's so frustrating.

However Poland yesterday played poorly and didn't create much chances.

Omgosh yes, I loved Kane's goal. Came after 90 minutes which must have been extremely frustrating to the Tunisians but it wouldn't have been so frustrating to lose a match at the last moment if those two fouls were given. England would have scored atleast ones.

English commentators were asking whether Kane would score a hatrick before the match even started. Fans are like whaaaat? But he did come close. Lolz.

I wonder whether they are too thick to realize that by over expecting from their players they are only putting them under pressure.

Apparently he has surpassed Puscas's european goal record. Poor Hungary was robbed from a world cup victory by a bad refereeing decision in the 50s.

I don't think it's an English thing. Before every world cup there are tranmisions of 1983 world cup when we didn't even win, we got bronze medal.

There were several mistakes when it comes to judge. But in the end I have nothing to say, because we deserved to lose. The team just played veery bad, it hurt me to watch it. I only hope, they will organize and change something before the . But as we say in Poland group stage consists of 3 matches: first one-match for opening, second one- match for everything and third one- match for honour

Before mundial most of specialists claimed that biggest chances to win has Brasil or France- I guess France is doing better job so far (although personally I don't enjoy watching their style of game that much)

^ What if the Serbs have to face the Croats at some stage? I hope not. I don't think it's fair on the players when political pressure affects players on the pitch. Media and sponsors would love it. But its unfair on the players.

I am assuming there is tension between those two nations.

But in that regard Serbs can't play against most nations. They jokingly say Serbia is angry with most of its neighbours .

Didn't like seeing Saudis play the Russians though i was really glad the Russians won. Iran Vs Saudi would be unfair too on the players.
