Spacing Out and Spacing In
By learning to space out at will, and come back at will, spacing in, is an important path to personal growth.
For when we deliberately and systematically space out to follow our principles, we can grow as persons.
For when we space out under the right conditions, we create a space where we are transparent and free. The perfect place to explore ourselves and explore the world.
For instance, poetry, meditation and dance can be used to space out, but too often we focus on the words or the movements and don't let ourselves fall into the arms of ourselves.
And we don't let ourselves fall because when we fall, we are vulnerable. And worse, being vulnerable usually makes others uncomfortable so they wake us up, and bring us back, all for our own good of course.
The Saints of course are able to be spaced out and in touch with the everyday world at the same time. Saints are notoriously spiritual and practical at the same time.
So rather than saying with false modesty, I'm no saint, we might say, I am learning to space out and space in at the same time like the Saints.
