It doesn't matter if the Democrats can recover. The Republican party is already destroyed, taken over by fascists. What does matter is in what form the American people recover. The two party system has become increasingly ineffective, and was never a great idea to begin with. Let the Trumpers call a spade a spade and rename themselves. Whoever actually speaks for the ordinary people and can represent their interests may very well end up coalescing into a new progressive party. The names don't matter. What they do does.

I'm kind of laughing but in a sad way. I've always thought that there has to be a price for stupidity. So when you appoint people to important positions based on their brown nosing skills vs competence, stuff like this is going to happen.

The attempted cover up is also bemusing. Deny, deny, deny, with a side of denigrating The Atlantic thrown in. Unfortunately, the orange Jesus crowd will simply believe everything he says carte blanche, end of story.

Let the lawsuits begin. When hundreds or even thousands are getting sued, it will start to become meaningless, especially since those people won't have the money to pay up. Or, the suits will get decided against the plaintiffs.

I remember years ago a fairy tale about a despotic king who started to ban more and more activity that people find meaningful and fun, to the point where even singing and dancing was illegal. The queen kept singing and dancing, and went to jail with her like-minded friends. Soon, the only fun to be had was in jail, where all the cool people were. Yes - it's a fairy tale, which means the king realized the error of his ways and rescinded all the bad laws. Everyone was freed, and lived happily ever after.

The lesson for us: there is strength in unity. Object together. Disobey together. Go to court together, and even jail. As with the civil rights era, that may be necessary for rational let alone progressive thinking to prevail.
