Regarding sexism, I wonder how you can empower people whose entire thing is that they don't think they should have power.

What's a benevolent dictator is in terms of software?
Benevolent dictator for life" is the title given to leaders of open source software projects like the Python programming language.

I suppose if you have been told - women require a man to take care of them since women are mentally, emotionally and physically incapable of caring for themselves - your entire life by everyone around you and never experienced much in the outside world, you would believe in benevolent sexism too.

Oh yeah, I know of Guido Von Rossum. I just wasn't aware he had that title.

That title is pretty much given ironically. They only thing you would have to do to have a "coup" is to fork the project and make a better one, which happens all the time.

In addition:
In July 2018, Van Rossum announced that he would be stepping down as BDFL of Python without appointing a successor, effectively eliminating the title within the Python community structure.[3]

This phenomenon is the norm. Every open source project has their own philosophy. That't the point. Any person can start any project with any values.

If the project has nothing of value to deliver society, then if they took their "dictator" title seriously, they are dictator of nothing.

What is your intention in connecting open-source to the notion of "benovlent sexism?"

Benevolent sexism has nothing to do with open source that I'm aware of so why would I use it in that way?

That was my mistake, then. They were just posts close together.

However, as far as the "benevolent dictator for life" is concerned, this title is often given to the open-source leader despite their protests. Generally speaking, by posting on this site, we are using many of the projects listed on the site.

Jimmy Wales's project has been referenced by many, even in just a few posts. I myself reference it a lot.

I wonder how that is likely to effect demography? Both the reproduction of the population and whether there will be a generation born with disposition towards disability or illness.

ChatGPT:
Here is a summary of specific economic policies and proposed laws/regulations in the document A New Way Forward for the Middle Class (page numbers cited):

1. Cut Taxes for Working People (p. 11): The Harris-Walz administration proposes to cut taxes for 100 million Americans, with no tax increases for those earning less than $400,000. They aim to restore the Expanded Child Tax Credit and introduce a new $6,000 tax cut to assist families during a child’s first year of life.

2. Lower Food and Grocery Costs (p. 15): They propose to invest in resilient food supply chains, promote competition in food markets, crack down on price-fixing and monopolistic practices, and pass a federal ban on price gouging.

3. Lower Health Care Costs (p. 21): The plan includes making health care tax credits permanent, increasing competition in the health care sector, and strengthening veterans’ health care. They also propose tackling medical debt by working with states and expanding medical debt relief initiatives.

4. Lower Prescription Drug Costs (p. 25): They aim to expand the $35 cap on insulin and the $2,000 out-of-pocket cap to all Americans, accelerate Medicare drug price negotiations, and increase competition in the pharmaceutical sector.

5. Lower Energy Costs (p. 28): The Harris-Walz administration proposes to continue investments in clean energy to lower household energy costs and create new jobs. This includes tax credits for clean energy technology and improving energy efficiency in homes.

6. Protect Consumers From Fees and Fraud (p. 33): They plan to fight against junk fees and fraudulent practices that burden consumers, particularly through subscription services and hidden charges in industries like travel, entertainment, and utilities.

7. Expand Housing and Homeownership (p. 36): Policies include expanding affordable housing supply with tax incentives, creating new tax credits for home rehabilitation, introducing the first-ever tax credit to encourage building affordable homes for first-time homebuyers, and providing $25,000 in down-payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.

8. Invest in Small Businesses (p. 46): The administration will aim to spur 25 million new business applications by expanding the startup expense deduction from $5,000 to $50,000 and cutting red tape, including reducing occupational licensing requirements.

These policies focus on reducing costs for families, expanding opportunities for business growth, and addressing housing shortages through targeted tax relief and regulatory reforms.

Irvine PD’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program dates back to 1985 and has a history of using unique cars to engage young students, including other pick-up trucks and even a PT Cruiser painted with flashy IPD decals.

“These vehicles draw a crowd with custom graphics and features that pique the curiosity of car enthusiasts of all ages,” Kent said. “We have seen time and time again how engaging the community breaks down barriers and builds trust between the police and those that we serve.”
🤣

A few scenarios.

1) No kids are involved with DARE anymore - this was a drug dealing front and it only served to normalize cops in schools. Where they have no business being.
2) These cops are going to get laughed at by everyone and likely vandalized.
3) This is ultimately a waste of money the taxpayers get to entertain for the fucking cops once again.

Also pretty sure Rivian (that makes e trucks) is headquartered in Irvine.

Glad it was a Sherpa. They don't usually get press like this, despite often being very skilled.

Very cool. Not to diminish that, but I've heard that if you attempt to climb Everest, it's actually extremely crowded. There are so many people making attempts and so many people at base camp. To me that shows how there really aren't that many places on Earth that are remain relatively untouched by a human presence.

Sidebar: The Great Pyramids of Giza literally have the suburbs of Cairo go almost right up to them. We imagine them as being way out their in the desert, but that's just because most people take photos from angles that conceal this fact. There's a McDonald's or a Wendy's or something and you can look right at the pyramids while eating some crappy burger or some other terrible food.

Is it just me or are spoiler tags one big pyramid scheme?

Well, despite being the "tallest" above sea level, Everest is not really the crown jewel of alpine climbing. There are harder mountains out there.

All of those tourists on Everest would not be able to reach the top without the aid of sherpas (for decades now) -- they've been making the ascents over and over again and have the stamina and breathing ability due to prolonged exposure to enable all the amateur climbers to reach the top (along with some actual skilled climbers).

Everest has been having a trash problem and has had it for years, so the local govs have started organizing expeditions to bring down used air cannisters and other waste that has been accumulating on that slope.

Nima Rinji Sherpa's praise is very much deserved for climbing the 14 tallest peaks in that area. K2 (which the article mentioned) is actually deadlier (until recently, 20% of those who summitted died) than Everest (which only has a 1% mortality rate for summitters now, in part because of how many people go up) and it is a harder technical climb. Annapurna is probably considered the deadliest/hardest climb.

I'm not disputing any of that.

My point was (as it often is) really only tangentially related to the topic. It's that we think of some places as being remote and almost belonging to another time, but the truth is that modernity and the tourist industry have left few places untouched. It's difficult to truly escape, which makes sense, because if it were relatively easy to get to, it could never really be an escape, because there would be others who could do that just as easily as you.
