In the US people like that are often limited in visibility because of the way the electoral system work, but I do think people who have issues with science because it's a "white, male construct" deserve some inner eye rolling.

Yeah, I saw that type of comments. The only thing I can say is that we need more of genuine science and critical thinking in schools. Since that is the only real cure for this.

Why do they royally piss you off? I don't really care what someone believes as long as they're not violent or hounding.

Left and right are today pretty fluid categories, especially once you go openly into "anti-establishment stuff".
Actually my far left and far right often vote together on certain things. This is exactly why they put them to seat right next to each other in the parliament. Therefore in my book this is all kinda subjective in modern times.

So do ours I think, they just don't recognize themselves.

The idea of him running for President bothers me more than RFK.

If the Dems run him as replacement for Biden then they should check their own brains.
However all of this is probably just because the guy knows he will lose and therefore he is going into retirement or whatever.


Btw West Virginia was just shifted from Likely R to Safe R on consensus map. Since besides him no one has even remote chance to take so red seat. Trump took the state in 2020 by 38 points.

Why do they royally piss you off? I don't really care what someone believes as long as they're not violent or hounding.

To fully understand that you need to have strong scientific or technical expertise. In other words today people are pushing their opinions into areas where they don't have the slightest idea what is going on. However because of that they mess things up for a whole bunch of people. What in the end has similar elect as they were violent.

For example there is very thin line between wrecking the place and ignoring the climate change. Since that will eventually wreck the place completely. Also in a sense it is better to just slap old person than being ignorant enough to give them COVID. If people believe in nonsense that will sooner or later have serious consequences. Because in results those will be completely comparable with anti-social behavior.

I'm sorry, I think it would be really hard to turn me against Bernie. I've liked him since before it was cool. I'm disappointed I never got to be a college student when he was running. That would have been exciting.

Ive had to make peace with the fact that there are antivaxxers and there are people who dont want to do it. The biggest way you can tell the difference is that the people who dont want to do it generally keep their mouths shut. I can deal with a person like that. Have you run into a flat earther in the wild yet?

No but I saw a video recently of a flat earther talking about how the sun isn't real. I know they generally fall into two camps - pseudo physical properties or conspiracy theory. And I think anyone that thinks stuff like the moon landing isn't real, can easily become a flat earther. Mostly I just suggest not asking what they think in the future and go on about my day. Even the antivaxxers - I seriously don't care. Kind of like the right wingers - I'm not interested in moving them either.

I did come across a NIMBY in the wild and oh wow, I'm certain she did not expect what was coming when she knocked on my door. I was happy to disappoint her (they are proposing affordable housing near me, which I fully support) and not sign her petition.

I'm going to leave out what are high levels of overlap with things that do harm people, like anti-abortion and and anti-LGBT positions, and just focus on the topic itself. This is what I arrived at when I thought about it. I thought of other things, but they went a little too broad and too bold in their claims, so I opted to stay in my lane:

It's because I think evolution is a fascinating, wonderful thing, when we think about what it produces and how simple it operates. The environment shapes the organisms to do all kinds of odd things, and it's incredible, but at the same time, it all makes perfect sense. I have an issue with someone who would be scared of that.

I also think kids should be taught that this and that it's not right to withhold this from kids, to see if they want to try and learn more about it and explore and maybe do something more about it in the future. I don't think the kids who do this are being done any favors.

This phenomenon some of us millenials have is interesting, this idea of being nostalgic for the future. Or rather, it's being nostalgic for an idea of the future that belongs to the past. This idea of the future often corresponds to when we were kids. Do other generations do that? It doesn't seem like it.

Sounds like one of those Creationists except in the other direction. Ive always found it interesting how much emotional overlap there is between column a and column b in this regard. Ive found a certain harmony between science and spirituality that is seems to some on both sides is perceived as some sort of anathema. I note that while some think its wrong to withhold knowledge from kids practically everyone seems to agree that some things should be kept from kids, and "for the children" has been used to justify everything from genocide to crusades, some using religion others using "science" as a rally cry. And its been my experience that its less about the root beliefs and more about the permissiveness to let themselves off the hook for their baser impulses. At the end of the day, everyone worships something. What they call their religion is between them and their living god, or the ascetics of their philosophy.

I don't necessarily think that there is a nostalgia for the future. But rather a nostalgia for the innocence of being able to believe that we actually have any future beyond damnation for do or don't.
