Watched that bullshit Ted Bundy four-parter on Netflix. I had read alot about Bundy some years back and was very aware of his interview with Dobson shortly before his execution. This show just frankly made me mad -- not the show, but just watching footage and hearing commentary by that MF'er (since the film features footage and audio dubs of him throughout as its primary focus). All his showboating, and glib talk, and crazy stunts, and total falsehoods about his complicity in the crimes and his judgements of the legal system and the players and society in general, while he knew all along he was guilty of these terrible things.
Also that he managed to escape (twice!) and the second time instead of just vanishing (cutting his losses and running), he got to Florida and murdered/beat coeds in their sleep like an animal (biting them repeatedly) and then butchering a 13 year old abductee out in the woods. Having to listen to all his bullshit on the footage just made me want to beat the living you-know-what out of him. He never knew how to shut up and reminds me of someone else very visible in American culture right now in terms of his incessant misrepresentations, charisma, inability to shut up, and soft-skinned egotism. He was just a sociopath. it was hard also to listen to his mother argue that the state shouldn't put him to death and that her son was mis-tried and wasn't guilty of all these horrible crimes, when they had a mountain of evidence... and even when Ted was about to be executed and she was played the tape of him describing his crimes in detailed fashion, she had nothing to say but offer pie and ice cream afterwards... totally in denial. (I think eventually she said she didn't raise him that way and can't imagine why he would do those things, since he grew up with women in his family.)
And then on the eve of his death, he suckered Dobson in to listen to his bullshit, and Dobson either naively bought into it (or purposefully did so because it supported Dobson's hatred of pornography) about how pornography was to blame for his sadistic uncontrollable murders. Bundy was just the worst. I don't particularly like that people were sending up fireworks and celebrating during his execution and also hocking a bunch of t-shirts and other items like some kind of carnival, but he's one of those few people I'm glad is no longer around to harm other people and potentially get away with it. He wouldn't have changed, he would have denied, and he would have tried to win people to his side.
