just a general poll spurred by curiosity:

Do you use closed captioning to process and focus better?

do you use closed captioning? and is the reason why you find it helps you pay attention better and process what's going on? I'm just curious as to how common this is

I use it. I wasn't sure whether to say it's for better processing. I feel like I miss less when I have it on.

It's easier to analyze what's happening on screen if the script is right under them. Also I watch a lot of anime and like to read.

Unless the clip's in a language that I don't understand, I find subtitles to be a distraction from reading people's body language, microexpressions and listening to their inflections. When it comes to music, I won't even bother with subtitles since lyrics often suck.

That's my mom's complaint. But I find I miss too much without subtitles

I don't because I barely know how to turn on my TV and I'm pretty sure I'd mess something up. I don't mind if other people put it on. I usually watch the same movie fifty times in a row, so I eventually know what's happening either way.

I never use it unless I cannot understand what is being said. (Sometimes if I don't understand an exchange, I'll go back and turn it to rewatch.) Otherwise I only use it for foreign films in other languages.

What I don't like is that (1) it takes me out of the film more than not having it on and (2) I don't focus as much on the rest of the visual image if I am staring at the bottom 25% of the screen, and I like to watch facial expressions, etc.

Sometimes. If I'm watching something more boring it's easier for me to keep up if I have CC on(like something for a class). Sometimes I'm wanna multitask-I'm a music addict so I might put on CCs for a video I'm watching while I have music playing in the background. There's anime too-which I generally like better subbed(but it depends on the anime). Generally not my go to though.
